side light replacement

Featured Replies

trying to change a side light bulb in my 57 plate vrs, got the headlight unit out no problem but just cant seem to get the side light out! I cant get my fingers in to pinch together the clips - either the opening is stupidly small or I've got fat fingers!

Any tips? :wonder:

The bulb holder dosnt usually have any clips it should just pull out, mine has a long strip of plastic on the holder I used long nose pliers and it came out easy enough

yep long nose pliers or angled long nose pliers, a small tab has to be squeezed to get it out.

i'll need to have another go, its doing my head in!

The multi plug that goes into the back of the headlight unit.....does that just pull out or is there a clip or something holding it in?

There's a clip on the underside of the plug

ok, cheers, i'll have a look... :)

there is a guide on here explaining how to take the lights out and change the bulbs with pics. Have a search, might help out a bit

Whilst you have the side light out could you take a pic of the back of the headlight and post it? Be interesting to see how much space there is for side light bulbs as im looking into getting some led ones

Considering LED bulbs are typically a lot physically smaller, I don't see you having much of an issue there. I have them in mine. Just make sure you get CAN-BUS compatible ones though.

the ones i'm going to get are canbus ready. They are Cree ones so bigger than normal led w5w bulbs.

aaargh! I need help! There is no way I can get the side lights out the headlamp unit! Tried needle nose pilers, tried using 2 small screw drivers as piliers...no joy!

Any tips! Got the headlight unit out no problem.....side lights...that's another story!

There's a little tag which you need to push in. Then just pull out.

there's 2 tags on the holder, 1 each side, I've tried all sorts to push the tags in and gently pull out the holder but its having none of it! Don't want to pull to hard in case in knacker it!

I had to remove mine by pulling it out using a combo of thin nosed piers and sheer frustration using the cabling tocthw bulb holder I then sprayed it with wd40 to aid refitting next time. Some cars do have a tag to aid removal as OPs have said but nine didn't! Grrr. Good luck.

The side light bulbs are a knight mare took me more than 5 minutes to do and im pretty good at mechanics, other point near side headlight loom is way shorter than offside.

On offside head light comes out so can easy undo the clip, near side you need to try turn light upside down to do and is a right pain on your own.

Struggling with a sidelight on my 2007 Octavia Sport. Can get the headlight unit out ok. The sidelight is in a black plastic box beside the headlight bulb and indicator but the black plastic box doesn't look like it comes out. Should it open? There looks to be a small tab on all 4 sides but I can't see which way they move.

@Daveyraveygravey the sidelight is the connector to the top in your picture.

One tip for you, do not put the sidelight holder back into the headlight until after you have plugged the headlight in and confirmed that the sidelights work correctly, or you may just find yourself going through the ridiculous removal procedure needlessly for a second time.

Ah, thanks Simon!  I guess the black box thing is the indicator assembly then?
