  • you become poorer ?

  • If you touch the nipple at the critical moment your hose will definitely pump more juice in :-)

  • Yes, and i just put 55 litres in a vRS, no gloves or other protection required to get the 'G Spot', the little green button for venting can easily be reached with a normal sized digit, the women wai

I always thought there was a small "reserve" of 5l?

you probably pressed the breather release nipple ? in I have got £70 of momentum in by doing that

Ive ve had nearly 60L in the car before!!  Its a 45 litre tank  plus the fller hose etc.  When you depress the breather release nipple you can normally get about another 5l in ontop as well.

That would make sense i suspose but i was only half way through the red. Plus the fuel pump didnt cut off like it normally does. Be it i was using it a a funny angle as the pump was on the wrong side of thr car

I have had 55 litres in mine when tanking up just to the first click. But that was after about 25 miles of driving with range reading zero....  :o

Yeah. I can believe it. I thought id see how much i could get in a few weeks ago. It eventually stopped at £68. I was abit surprised lol

Cheers guys i guess i didnt think it could take that much fuel. Oh well tesco not to blame.......lol

What is the draw backs of depressing the breather release nipple to get as much in at each fill up.? if any.

I didnt even know about the breather release nipple. How do you know its pressed in?

Look at petrol pump if it says £70 its pressed in :giggle:  :giggle:

But seriously look in the filler hole you should see it on the right, the filler cap presses it in i think when you replace it, but you can press it with filler nozzle and hear it purging the air out of the expansion tank as the tank becomes full

Well it is there to deal with the possibility that you could fill up with nice cool fuel on a very cold morning and then part your black car in a very hot place and the fuel could expand a bit but also start to produce fuel vapours which laws say should not be allowed to vent to atmosphere unless the pressure gets very high.

So having a expansion area which is about 10% of the size of the main tank copes with these temperature and pressure variations.

I do not think there is any particular issue with deliberately using the tank venting to get a few more litres in as long as you use the extra fuel right away.

Well next time i fill up i ll make sure i fill the normal tank up. Cheers Mick

I regularly get 50+ litres in to the tank even though it's only supposed to be 45 by filling the expansion tank too. Total capacity seems to be approx 55 litres this way, although brimming the expansion tank can be a bit slow

You're really not supposed to do it with Petrol as it can be dangerous. Diesel is fine, as far as I'm aware.

I have had to start wearing gloves at the petrol station because of this

+1

It's also a good way to damage parts of the evaporative emissions system such as the charcoal canister or N80 purge valve.

Yeah that sounds like a good plan mate. If the tip of my nozzle touches nipple there is a good chance of blowing my load all over the place -very messy.....

are we still talking about petrol stations ?

Yes,

the women waiting behind at the pump was looking at me oddly,

i think she spotted me taking the nozzle out and putting my finger in 3 times.

george

If you look at a pump nozzle it has a bump when you put it in the pipe the bump presses the bleed nipple so it lets the air out when you  fill up.  The pump cuts you are full as the air has escaped when you fill. If you fill the pipe you have to let the air out by pressing with your finger as said

shell has them
