is stage 2 remap worth doing

Featured Replies

Got a mk1 octy vrs had remap 1 done so running around 210-215bhp just wondering is the stage 2 worth getting and will the turbo be overboosted or will it be okay

What other mods you running

Turbo should be fine assuming its in good health. Youd need to drive a stage 2 car to see if you want the extra power.

Stage 2 is like going from std to stage 1. You will need typically a better intercooler than the std smic , a turbo back sports cat/decat exhaust to get best out if stage 2.

Injectors wouldn't hurt either as they`ll be close to their max duty cycle.

You typically get more torque from a stage 2 than bhp.

But you have to have some mods in place or your EGT and AIT will go through the roof.

So some parts you`ll need:

Turbo back exhaust, 3" down pipe and sports cat or De cat

Panel filter, the bare minimum.

Front mounted intercooler.

Might need a new clutch, depending on what life yours has had and mileage.

440cc injectors, stick to Bosch or Genesis as others (or fake copies) won`t give the proper spray pattern at idle and will make your idle lumpy.

Thats about it:)

Depends how deep your pockets are!

Running it on a pipercross panel filter and chucking a g60 vr6 flywheel n clutch in it at Christmas and yeah thiNk the turhow in good condition as only had 1 woman owner. So to run a stage 2 remap I need a nee intercooler and a decat exhaust pretty mmuch?

2.5 or 3 inch down pipe

Injectors are good for stage 2 power up to 250 bhp

To get the best you need a decent filter and turbo intake pipe

Also a decent fmic

Healthy non leaking car

Safe 230 to 240 on a stage 2 well setup car

Balls.....forgot about the tip lol

Out of interest can you go stage 2 on the standard tip? Ive no intentions of stage 2 myself but just wondered as ive seen stage golfs and audis with the standard tip

Yes buddy you can.

Although the std tip are well old these days and they can crush under higher boost. So makes sense really to change tip for a silicon one

Now hear this ! You will need a diff !

Haha, well, you won't need a diff but it will help a lot!

Waste of money....IMHO

I went from stage 1 to 2 in my LCR..and for the money I spent getting it there,.was a waste.

Stage 1 is good...don't waste your money on stage 2

I'm getting a stage2 in my 8L S3 cos I've fitted a Hybrid KO4 and need some half way map to get me down to Shark for a custom map so they do have their uses:)

Lol how's it a waste of time

Take a car from stage 1 210 bhp to 240+ stage 2 with right mods

Night and day changes and it doesn't need to be expensive if you listen to people that have been there got shirt ;-)

If i had the money i would definately go stage two as going from stage oem to stage 1 is a big jump and id love more.

Defo do not agree with this.

Either your mapper was crud or your stage 1 was a stage 2 to start with.

A upgrade from stage 1 to stage 2 is significant.

A stage 2 increase boost  fuel / timing in such a way that a lot more torque is released from the car so although you may only see 20+ more horses,  torque can get a 30% increase and this where the power is felt.

night and day difference....

Also you only really pay the larger costs for the stage 1 as most mappers re map to stage 2(if staying with same mapper) with massive discounts as you already have the software on your car.

Example . I went from REVO 1 to REVO 2 for £50.

Nothing wrong with the map on stage 2,like you it was a revo map,and aside from running rich and robbing power (aren't all revo codes the same?)

Just I don't thing fitting a down pipe,then system,then filter,then front mount it's worth the 20bhp for the money's worth...

I gained 10ftlb of torque at most

You map and setup clearly wasn't great if that's all you gained IMO

Nothing you ever do to your car is really worth it money wise...but it's fun building your car up,I've taken 9 years to get to stage 2 and have enjoyed doing it :)

Revo off the shelf..

275ish bhp

299ftlb torque.

Wow that don't sound good buddy.

My REVO 2 was major aggressive on the AUQ engine. Torque went up to around 262 which is pretty good for these K03s turbos.

True the cost of the bolt on goodies is significant to get you there but there are now more budget options to do it and i think if you take car over a period of change and not rush all in one go that does not feel so drastic on the wallet.....

You're comparing a K04 stage 2 vs a K03 stage 2 - not really fair imho

To start with, guessing revo would have limited the torque figure to a safe 299ft/lbs, so customers don't snap rods and sue them

Can tuners tweak other tuners maps?
