Any tips on what to look for on a mk1 VRS first time buyer

Featured Replies

Hi everyone :)

I am about to look at my first vrs, I have wanted one for ages and the time has come when I am actually looking for one. Anyone got any tips on what to look out for? Like common faults etc they have? The one I am looking at is a 2004 with 115k and has been mapped. But it has lots of service history

thanks

Hi!

Start the car, turn off the fan and radio. Put your foot on the clutch and off a few times and see if there is any noise.

Open the rear doors and see if they are stained or wet (probably might be anyway but it's an easy fix). Also check the carpet under the mat.

Test drive the car and check for front or back end knocking.

Check the car under power for any whoosh sounds which could be the sign of a boost leak. Check under the engine cover at the boost hose on the top left and see if it is fitting properly.

Finally put the Windows up and down to see if they work without fault.

These were at least my problems lol

Oh finally avoid if when revving the turbo sounds like a police car.

My rear door cards are stained... what causes this??

Your rear door carriers leaking

It mite have happened in the past and could have been fixed if the stains have been there for a while.

Thanks, do these car not have many common mechanical faults then

Well every car has its faults but apart from some grief sorting out turbo boost leaks it's been ok.

Good point Harry 1212 the stains could be old..check for mould under the mat.
