New to Briskoda. Advice needed!

Featured Replies

Hello there. I'm looking at buying a fabia vrs estate 2010 model. I've never owned a skoda before and love the idea of owning a VRS. I'm just after some advice really. Obviously, I'm aware of the oil 'issues' and I'll be honest, it's kinda putting me off a little bit. Anyway. A little more about the car. It's up for 10k and has just over 20k miles on it. Apparently it's had 2 services so far and will now be due another one Imagine. It's cave engine. I need something with big boot as have dog and a baby on the way...vrs hatch is out of the question unfortunately :-(. What do you recommend I do guys? I was also thinking of maybe an Octavia vrs. I think the boot would be big enough for pushchair and a dog? What's the better car/engine/ drive? It would prob be a 08/09 plate if I went with the Octavia. If I did go with the Octavia, it would have to be the diesel as I couldn't afford to run the petrol. Many thanks guys. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi!

I have got a 2008 plate octavia 1.9TDi mk1 shape!

The boot is HUGE! you could prob fit the pushchair and the dog in!

Hope this helps!

Welcome to the forum.

If you ask in the Fabia 2 Section with a Registration Number someone might know the car.

On the Fabia Mk2 vRS estate i would read 'last weeks posts/threads' in the Fabia 2 Section on the car and about buying used.

Skoda Approved and 12 Months Warranty & maybe taking out a Skoda Approved 2 Year Extended Warranty.

1st service, 1 year/9400 miles, Minor Service. £95-£115 sort of cost

2nd Service, 2 years/19,000-20,000 Major Service, 'Inspection Service', ECU Update might have needed doing.

Pollen Filter, £175-£230 ish.

3rd Year/30,000 ish mile,  Minor Service & Brake Fluid Change,  about £110, Brake Fluid £45, MOT £39.

So must be due if not done already, or get it done before buying.

If buying from some place else with the remainder of the Original 3 Year Warranty, you need to check the ECU is not or

has not been Re-mapped previously.

'& the Warranty will not be valid with Skoda'. Or just they try to say that it is not Valid.

You really need to check what has been done or not, Any Warranty Work already, Engine Rebuilt or replaced,

Breather Mod done which means someone has already reported high oil use.

A new engine might be better than a rebuilt, but Skoda are being very vague on Details on what they do or supply.

There are good cars around, many more than bad ones. so its a Lottery.

Same as with an Octavia or any other used Skoda/VW/Seat/Audi etc. Or any vehicle.

If a Dealer sells you a 'Skoda Approved car', then it can maybe be argued they are selling you what they sell you, checked or not,

so Skoda can not come back and say, 'That has been Mapped'. Warranty Invalid.

Go for the Octavia estate.    Petrol or diesel? depends if you are doing short journeys or long.   DPF's in modern derv's just don't like short journeys, you could end up with higher fuel bills.

Octavia Vrs MKII Hatch, Petrol or Diesel

The End

I'd go for the Octavia, probably in estate form (although the hatch has a huge load area too).  The extra space will be very handy will a baby and all the associated paraphernalia that babies bring (you can never have too much space for pushchairs, changing bags etc).  I reckon that you'd probably get an Octavia for the same sort of money as a Fabia, certainly not much more, due to small cars being more popular these days.

Good luck with your search and with your new arrival!

the octy does also have issues, the PD engine used to bleed deisel into the oil.....

MOST of the fabia vRS models are fine ;) if you have one in mind , call the previous owner (details will be on the V5) and ASK :) my old one (50k NO oil issues) sold withing 3 months of my trade in, as they had the history of the car... my new vRS estate , has also been fault free so far....

dont be put off, just buy the right car ;)

octys are bigger many advantages ect , but to say the fabia is a bigger risk would be untrue ;)
