Remapped Superbs - owners' experiences ?

Featured Replies

I might be looking for another Skoda at the end of the year and wondered who has already had their Superb remapped ? I enjoyed my remapped 1.8T 4x4 Octavia and know how well the 130PD remaps as well, so it will probably come down to how many miles I think I'll be doing at the time.

Bear with me as it seems that the 1.8T might be worth a punt again:-

If I do 15,000 miles a year it will cost me

Rob,

Why dismiss resale?

I bought a Rover 75 2.5V6 Auto as it was

I left out the resale aspect as I'd probably be buying at the 18month/2 year old mark (1 year left on warranty) when the big chunk of depreciation has been lost. Add another 3 years on top and I don't think Superbs will be worth a great amount of money - I agree, its a risk.

I'm also tending to think that a Jabba'd 185/190bhp PD would suit the Superb extremely well - sub 8 seconds to 60, strong on the motorway, good ride, solid.

The other thing that would probably swing it in favour of the 130PD is that the 1.8T was only available up to Comfort spec a couple of years ago, but to Elegance in the PD ?

Against all of that, it would still be tempting to pick up a lowish miles 52 plate 1.8T privately for

Rob,

How about the 2.5 tdi and get that one remapped..?

Could be pretty swift, although admittedly not so economical as the 1.9..

Personally I would opt for the 1.8T and get it remapped, DV, CAI and turbo back exhaust/FMIC. Might cost a bit but i'm sure the grin on your face would make it worthwhile.

Remapping the PD130 would get you 180 bhp being realistic for about

Personally I would opt for the 1.8T and get it remapped i'm not sure 180 bhp would be enough to propel this car at the same speed as your previous car.

Superbs look as though they are fast becoming bargain secondhand buys - they've always been good value, but I've found a few 1.8T's with low mileage in Comfort spec for

I have just chipped my 2.5 TDI. Chip has been on 2 weeks now and no problems so far. Performance is very good and it feels extremely fast in any gear but especially the 1st four.... I've covered 1200 miles in it since fitting and averaged just over 40 mpg in it. Today I went to Edinburgh and back towing a trailer which was loaded with a car engine and parts on the way up but empty on the way back. Drove a 50/50 split between motorway and A roads at speeds of 70+ mph most of the time, averaged 41 mpg for the trip.

I would definitely look at the 2.5 if you drive on motorways a lot. The 1.9 has not got the same character, grunt or flexibility of the bigger diesel. To get fuel economy below 37 mpg you need to drive only in town OR only use 1st to 4th and ignore the last 2 cogs in the box.

You've probably cleared up for me how much the quattro transmission affected the MPG on the 2.5 A4 Tdi I had in 2000-2002. I averaged 34 in that (with the 6 speed box), with normally 38 if I took it easy on the motorway.

Which chip have you had fitted by the way and what are the claims for it ?

- I presume you've no regrets with the Superb in general ?!

Thanks

Rob

I went for a PSI chip from east coast racing. Only reason being that I had a chip from them on my old Peugeot and I got good service from them and help when I had troubles that turned out to be a transfer pump fault not the chip.

I would say it wasn't easy to fit though. Its only 5 wires but 2 of them are into the wiring loom from the Engine ECU and its tucked underneath the bulk head in front of the driver. 2 more are for power and the last is to the pump. The box intercepts the canbus signal and then passes the adapted signal to the pump. As a result the mpg figures are still acurate because the ECU is told about the signal. I wasn't convined about that and checked it out on a long run. My calculations (based on the fuel I put back in) were within 0.5 mpg so I am not going to argue with what it says.

The manual box is so high geared economy is no worse on a motorway and I am not convinced it hasn't improved but I don't see how that would have happened.

I travelled 75 miles each way to work today and got 44.3 mpg this morning and 43.1 tonight.

So far (and I admit its early days yet) I can not fault the car. It feels too soft at times but if you drive harder and faster the suspension tightens ups, just the initial travel is a bit soft me. Build quality of the car is fine and much better than an early Octavia I had. The only poor point about the car is the stereo..... Mine had a Symphony with 6 cd in the boot and I hated it. Sounded like a stereo out of a Metro. I replaced it with a Blaupunkt satnav unit and now I love it. Was going to change the speakers but they are actually pretty good but were let down by the head unit.

The only scary point to the car is oil and its the same as any VW / Audi and uses their dosed oil with a property to allow the soot sensor to work. Skoda will ask nicely for

Sounds good - shame I'm not ready to buy just yet as I've found a 52 plate with under 20,000m and FSSH for
