Biggest and strongest battery for a PD140?

Featured Replies

The comms and engagement solenoids do get grunged up.

In the old days, they were very easy to strip, clean up to commutator and replace the brushes if necessary.

The solenoid contacts get a bit burnt up, the last Bosch starter I messed with was easy to clean, but I think I have replaced the solenoid a couple of times. (who makes Skoda starters?)

Never had to do this on a Skoda. Depends if anything is glued/welded/sealed I suppose.

Most warranty returns/part exchanges (something like 80%+) for things like starters and alternators were something simple, that could have easily been fixed by a rank amateur, worn brushes or broken, easily visible easily repairable wires, but mostly the brushes. Any will do if the maker/importer won't sell you any, as you can file them to fit if necessary. Bosch Service Centers are mostly pretty good.

That's not counting the poor earths' and general bad or loose connections.

The wife moaned that the car struggled to start this morning. Turned the key and nothing, a couple of seconds later (with the key still turned) it fired up.

I'm going to buy a Bosch S5008 096 for £80.

I still think this may be a starter motor issue though, I'll find out for sure next week!

The factory fitted battery on our 2008 Scout is as follows:

IJO 915 105 AE

12V 70Ah 340A DIN

570A EN/SAE

Fitted a Bosch S5008 (096) this weekend.

Problem solved, now starts instantaneously.

Almost dropped the little metal clamp down into the engine bay when refitting but it caught on a hose and I was able to grab it with a pair of pliers!

Guys,

Quick question. Will the Bosch S5 096 fit all Octavia Mk2's? Mines is the 1.9 TDI. Just want to double check before ordering

Thanks

Just fitted one of these to my Octavia, it was seven months old with a three year warranty and started great this morning.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I am a bit confused as to what physical size of battery will fit my Octavia II FL 2012 2.0CR 140. The current battery, which is showing signs of getting old is a Varta 5K0 915 105E 61Ah 540CCC. It is approx 240x175x190 mm which makes it a 078 or 027 size. The ones that seem to be specified for my car on the internet are either 110 or 096 size. Neither of these sizes will fit in the fabric battery cover and the battery tray does not look much longer than the existing battery unless it disappears under the scuttle.

Does a 110 or 096 size battery fit OK? I assume that those people who have fitted larger batteries have had to dispense with the fabric battery cover.

Ditch the fabric cover and the 096 fits fine. I have one in my MK2 FL. I think I had to move the clamp to the next bolt hole though.

As above, go 096.

Thanks everbody for the advice. I have bought a 096 battery same rating as a Varta E44 but different German manufacturer from an online battery supplier with a shop in Stockport near where I live. It was £60 collected with a 5 year guarantee. Seems to do the job but what do I do with the fabric battery cover?

If you really want to keep the jacket, there is one for the 096 battery. See here...

Google search for an 096 battery and you can find one as good a spec as the Bosch or Varta ....77AH and 760/780 CCA for around £60-70 delivered with a 3-5 year warranty

That is the battery that I bought although I collected it as I live local.
