Stuttering when cold

Featured Replies

07 TFSi vRS - when cold the engine stutters on light throttle like there's a misfire, but on anything other than light throttle it feels fine. Skoda recently changed the plugs as part of the service plan and I fitted some red top coils but it hasn't made a difference and with the colder weather it's making the stutter more pronounced. I've used my Gendan fault code reader which claims none are stored. I've also pulled the dipstick out and the car idles badly suggesting the PCV valve is working correctly.

Any other ideas? Diverter Valve? Gunked up inlets? Dodgy spark plugs that Skoda haven't changed? This has only been going on for the last 3k miles or so!

Carbon build up?

Keep the revs up for a few days and stretch it a bit. Sorted mine out (same year and motor) from same symptoms. Not sure quite how, but it did!

It gets a good run most days. I'm thinking of getting a new DV anyway as they're cheap and go from there.

Is it stock or mapped?

Stock.

Search for the post I made around December 2012. My car had this problem -57 plate with 105k miles. Turned out to be oil build up in the intake / back of the intake valves. As it is a direct injection engine there is no "fuel wash" effect on the intake and it gums up like the oven in a student flat. The cure was to clean it (there is an excellent guide on the mkv gti website). It's a long job as the fuel rail has to come out and the actually cleaning is a slow process, but it only cost me 10 hours, 2 cans of carb cleaner, several roles of kitchen towel a special socket bit and a pile of Cotten buds. 10,000 miles on she still runs beautifully.
