Washer Bottle Capacity

Featured Replies

Can anybody answer a question I have? What is the capacity of the washer bottle on the Fabia II?

Ever since I have taken delivery of my Fabia, I have thought there was something wrong with the washer bottle as it will only take approx 1.5 litres of water and before you know it, you have used it. I have taken it back to the dealer twice complaining that there was a problem, to be told that the capacity is 2 litres. I wasn't happy but carried on with filling up the washer bottle frequently, but every time it took less and less water and now I'm at a point that the washer bottle will only let me fill up with less than half a litre of water which proved to be dangerous when I was driving on Tuesday morning after the gritters had spread salt resulting in a build up on my windscreen and me running out of washer fluid, having just filled it up with less than half a litre of water.

I put at least 4l in mine last night and it wasn't empty to begin with

I think my washer bottle must be based on the Tardis, as it takes over 4 litres, and I got bored filling it up so stopped there.

My Wife is constantly fillng hers up, well I do it for her! and it'only seems to take a fraction of the capacity of mine! I can actually get bored filling mine, and that's not even from empty!, My Wife's runs out in no time at all, and it only takes about 1 n half maybe 2 litres!!

Both Fabias... One a Hatch the other an Estate, the Hatch (hers) is a 2009 base model, mine a 2013 Greenline

mine is based on the TARDIS too.... I have never run out between services! lol.... currently have 2 top up bottles of proper VAG stuff in the house! :o

I wonder if you've been mixing incompatable types of screenwash (yes, there are different types) and they've made a sort of sludge which is blocking the pump inlet - adding more fluid mixes it up for a short while so clearing the path to the pump but after a while it gets blocked again?  Failing that, it sounds like the bottle has collapsed!

I had an issue with the washer bottle in mine, but I don't think it's quite the same thing. I would fill it full, but it would go in no time. Turned out to be a loose pipe. Fixed under warranty by the good guys at Savilles Garage Kidderminster.

Defo more than 4 litres in mine, as per filling a full 5 litre screenwash container to the requisite concentration and standing there for ages trickling it in, so as not to splurge it all over the engine bay...

Nowhere to hold the cap out of the way and really tricky to get a funnel in the attachment - I've taken to using a cut off suqash bottle (1 litre type).

Also, is your filter in the top of the washer bottle filler? Has perhaps something got in and blocked the filler pipe or just blocked the exit?

I'm forever spending a fortune on topping up my washer fluid, it's unreal the thing holds 45 litres 50+ if i press in that natty little purge button and I love the locking cap so noone pilfers my screen wash.

The problem that I am having is that when I wash the windscreen I get a whiff of petrol coming into the cabin.

errr. I'll have one of what he's having......

Owners manual says 3.5 Litres and about 5.4 litres on vehicles which have a headlight washing system.

You know, if you stop driving so close to people you don't use as much water and save yourself some money.

Also if you are about to have your windscreen replaced by the AA, use your screenwash and don't fill up, because they give you a free topup when they put a new screen in. Got one for my Peugeot, good thing as it had ran out and was running on just water from work.

I buy and use gallons of Washer Fluid every year, and thats not realy just keeping the windscreen clear, on a Fabia its for the rear screen mostly.

I'm shocked I've not had to fill mine since I bought it. Usage has increased recently though so it can't be long ... can it ?

Thank you all for your replies. I have finally found my handbook and it states the capacity is 2L and larger if you have headlight washers. It has been back at the stealers today and they have removed the washer bottle and it is OK, nothing wrong with it, so the washer bottle must be 1.5L full then I keep topping it up with 0.5L then I am using maybe 0.5L and then the washers run dry, they are going to investigate further tomorrow. It has been iffy since I took delivery of it, and I took it back to them twice under the three month warranty which ran out in September and this problem wasn't resolved and it has gradually got worse since.

What, I have to check my oil levels AND my washer bottle levels?  Where's the dipstick for the washer bottle, then?

I am happier with a Skoda to go with a 'Low Washer Fluid Light' as a warning,  or you get no 'Squirt when you want.'.

no warning light worky, , No Wucking Furries really.

(Mixed ready fluid in the boot, just stop and fill it up.)

rather than run the car,  and rely on a 'Low Oil Warning Light' & hope it works.

(bottle of Oil in the boot.)
