Hybrid turbo arrived

Featured Replies

My new hybrid turbo arrived today from xman750, it looks great, well packaged, can't wait to get the car into unit 18 to get it sorted should hopefully be joining some of you lovely members in the 200bhp+ club very soon

Got mine too from him mate. Looks excellent.

Gonna be doing mine myself though but not sure what gaskets I'll need etc!

I would take a quick look on Darkside's website at the kit they sell and work from there?

I think he said exhaust gasket and downpipe gasket and that's about it but mines going to unit 18 and if it's any different ill update the post to let you know

What models have you bought do they fit right on?

I'm after around 220bhp, thinking of getting a Sachs dmf clutch to keep costs down and a cheap fmic.

Think i'd need an oil line gasket too mate, just want to get the parts list and order them then i'm ready to do it.

How hard is it to fit it yourself? I have no idea what is required, i've taken the inlet manifold off before so it can't be much harder than that surely?

downpipe "gasket" is fine to just use exhaust paste - just want a new exhaust manifold gasket which can be had for south of £10 usually.

The fiddly bit with a turbo is usually the oil drain & feed, and also ensuring the actuator is setup right, stopscrew is setup accurately, and turbo is clocked correctly for where the outlet should point on a vRS. :)

Sorry to pull up an old thread.

Looking at going down the route of a replacement turbo as a preventative measure (starting to get a metallic ticking/rattling on boost in 3rd and has been 'fluttering' for a month or two under boost too.  Drives fine otherwise.

Have I missed any crucial parts? - Looking at the above, I should just need:

-Turbo (comes with oil drain gasket)

-Exhaust Manifold Gasket

-Oil & filter

Most say that the oil pickup pipe on a Fabia will be fine unless damaged during removal.  But should I be purchasing anything else from the dealers/darkside?

Thanks!

Definitely change the oil feed line at the least mate. Who's to say that your current one hasn't contributed to your turbo being on the way!?

Possibly a gasket for the EGR pipework - you may be able to re-use the original one though...

Good point.

Think ill do the lot.

Exhaust manifold gasket

Oil Return Pipe Gasket

EGR Pipe Gasket Top

EGR Pipe Bottom Gasket

Exhaust pipe gasket

Oil pickup pipe

That should cover it...

Inlet manifold gasket.

And if your ordering it from someone, you need the oil feed pipe - to the turbo.

The oil pickup pipe is a different part in the sump and may get confusing.

I've only ever used exhaust paste when sticking the downpipe back on the turbo.  Needs nothing more. :)

Oil return pip the on from turbo to the back of the block

Thanks for all the pointers on parts/ gaskets needed. Would have ordered the wrong oil line!

Letting a mechanic take a closer look first as although the Turbo is probably due for replacement, the ticking could apparently be injector related / camshaft wear. Wonderful...
