Hi guys.

This is my first question on here but have been reading a fair bit just recently. I know this topic has been discussed to death but realistically, are there gains to be had in fuel consumption from a stage 1 remap? I have an 07 octy vrs diesel and am thinking of the upgrade. I know to start off with the right foot might be a little heavy but I'm just interested in what others experiences are!

And need a little sweetener for the wife if you know what I mean..!!

Hi, while its theoretically possible to squeeze a few more mpg out of your vrs it's unlikely because all that extra power is so addictive. Also, any savings you make will be offset by the extra insurance costs. Still worth doing though.

Very true Mison, hadn't thought about it that way! Would be intrigued to see how much quicker it is once done!

What kind of driving do you do?

Mine is up to 200bhp and town mpg is up. Urban is just as parkers say and motorway is about the same (47 over a 25 mile journey)

Although a different engine (petrol TFSI), I have found an improvement in economy due to less down changes in gears required. I can now happily cruise at 40 mph in 6th with no labouring issues at all.

 

Also on the motorway I can happily stay in 6th (see above), and utilise the extra low down torque my car now has.

 

Data: My best MPG to date is 44.3 mpg (IIRC) from Oxford to Swansea and back, not bad going!

Had a Shark S1 for a few months now.  Now I can overtake.

Had to go down to London yesterday.  As I was cruising along the M11, more or less legally, I noticed the mfd showing a trip consumption in the mid 50's. 

I feel its more economic is normal use, especially mid speed cruising. 

Of course, using all the available performance and it will be worse, although not as bad as I sort of expected.

Car is a 56, (was)105hp combi.

I do mostly 30 min runs or less but do 2-2 1/2 hr runs once a month ish. So the round town mpg improvement is good to know!

I've heard a lot of good things about Shark on here but I'm down south do it's a bit far. They do have an installer not far though, hpfly they're rep is as good!

My '07 petrol vRS was smoother, more flexible, quicker  & more economical after it's stage 1 remap.

Had the map removed before it was traded in for the Superb & I really noticed the difference!

If you remove the DPF at same time you can eradicate it becoming an expensive issue in the future (they don't last forever) and get a little more poke again and a tiny bit better mpg. My 2011 stage 1 remapped can do 65mph on mixed driving if I REALLY REALLY try........ generally I don't and can get 52-56mpg same roads driving it the way I would rather making use of the power etc (I don't tend to speed that said so 60mph max on those roads for me). 

 

Transforms the car, you'd be so surprised, like having a new car! If your near SHARK Performance, I think they have a sale on at moment or something going by FB??

I've got a dpf deleted and mapped cr vrs. Today I drove from Chester to Nottingham. With mixed driving between 50-80 and about 30 mins of stop start traffic and the trip showed 60.6mpg which is amazing in my eyes.

But mapping it in the long run won't save you anything, it's more for drivability in my eyes, and mine has it in buckets, especially with 500nm in the mid range

My car after the remap was transformed, so much more get up and go with far less turbo lag. The wife has a 2010 Seat Altea XL 2.0 tdi CR 170 and she's quite a spirited driver so naturally we've had a play and mine is hands down better, much more responsive and punchy.

Now, with the dpf on the Seat shes lucky to get 47mpg driving like miss daisy, where as I don't have a dpf and when driven sensibly I get 49-52mpg but normally it's around 46. Is is worth it....... hell yes because to get this much grunt through the seat of your pants you'd need at least a 2.0 T petrol and deep pockets to fill it up all the time. My mate has a 2008 GTI Golf and drove mine recently, he couldn't believe how much it pull it had and reckons it felt quicker than his, he said GTi performance on a budget so guess who's laughing!

So, the answer to your question is don't kid yourself if you think you'll save money by getting it done because it will take you years if not for ever of yawn un-spirited Sunday afternoon driving to recoup the cost of doing it in the first place, but who you kidding eh 'more beans more fun'.

Ha, like it. That's very true though! Will it affect the MOT or road tax without the DPF? They do seem a bit of a pain, had a sensor go on mine already, only had it since March!

I asked vosa and they said i wont matter regs mot. Tax is based on set numbers by the manufacturer so it wont change.

The main reason i got mine done was short journeys so the dpf will have died soon, light was always coming on. Also had a big loss in power, that was a sticky egr valve which was blanked off at the same time

Oh ok, that's worth knowing! It's an extra few hundred quid to remove DPF isn't it? Hmmm. Lots to think about!

i got 45.5mpg coming home from mansfield to leicester but half of that was driving the car like a new toy that just had more power to be used!!!

 

i had shark stage 1 on my mk2 leon fr,  that map was great so much low down torque it make the car feel so quick,  on a run it would do 46mpg @ 82mph and 38-40mpg around town.

So am I correct in thinking that £549 price includes both the removal of the Dpf and a normal stage 1 remap too ????

yeah  for the pd engine,  £699 for the CR

Personally I wouldn't waste my money on an induction kit just I'd get a K&N panel filter fitted before having the car de-dpf'd and remapped ;-)

What's a panel filter.!? Sorry, I'm not very technical!

I'm getting 44 mpg on motorway, and 35mpg in the city. stage 1 remap, and dpf removed. Some say go for panel filter, some say induction kit I'm going to fit either APR carbonio induction kit, or BMC induction kit. 

 

BHP Now: 200

NM of torque: 400

Any idea of readings when its a diesel? I have a 2013 TDI and could do with some extra MPG more so that the poke! 

 

Do you lads all bring it to "specialists"? I'm worried that some clown could screw up the ECU and cost me a fortune!! :(

Or have you done it yourself?
