it won't bend your hatch, been using them for years. the tighter the better, make sure you use the straps top bottom and side so it doesn't wobble

Having seen many bikes racks tumble off cars, I would never have a car mounted rack myself. I have a Pendle tow ball mounted (I have a swan neck t/b) 4 bike carrier, that is rock solid at any speed even when fully loaded.

Many a time people have commented on how strong and sturdy it is..and believe me it is.
