Irrational Yeti love - Why?

Featured Replies

It's not pretty, sporty or stunning in any way. The looks can only be described as quirky or blocky. The inside is just plain, typical VAG.

But for some reason I have always really liked them and 3 1/2 Months and 12,000 miles into ownership, I am liking it more and more.

What is it about them? They are definitely more than the sum of their parts, but I can't really put my finger on why.

Simple, Yeti ticks every box! It is a complete package.

You mention not sporty, maybe correct but the 170 TDI has good performance stats and can keep up with the best of cars.

I have done 100K miles in mine and I am still happy to drive it, all other cars I have had that clock 100k I start looking for what is next, Yeti is here until August 2014 and I don't want to change it, not keen on the FL.

Just a pleasure to drive I've had all makes and even with the 1.2 engine this is the best

All the things mentioned plus character- I find my self talking to mine- not something I have done with any previous cars.

It is a lot of capability in a very neat and sensible size package and with extraordinary decent handling and in the case of the more powerful versions spritely performance. I never thought such a package could be such fun to drive.

Because they are so charming and make you smile when you see them and especially when you dive them

Or even when you DRIVE them!

When the Yeti was first launched Skoda Auto made a great thing about it's uniqueness and suggested that maybe it had its own character, with soft toys, yeti feet ice trays, Yeti ice scrapers etc. They even went to the trouble of making a number of promotional films, plugging it's practicality and off road prowess, along with brining quite a number of Czech demo's over here two months before the UK release.

However that's all disappeared and long forgotten about and they now push the corporate look and the strange notion of a city and outdoor version, both of which seem less rugged than the original; low slung fogs inviting damage and painted rear bumper just waiting to be scratched.

IMHO anyway,

Because they are a great jack of all trades and also nice to drive with plenty of toys when well specced.

Not a lot of other cars that cost around £25k could do this, while still being economical and having a great residual value.

My Yeti has done nearly 30k miles under some pretty harsh conditions.

Never had so much as a bulb go, so despite not needing it as a daily drive it's here to stay.

The looks can only be described as quirky

And perhaps that is part of the appeal - I don't think you can look at a Yeti and think "Is that a Skoda Yeti or a <Fill in faceless corporate clone of your choice>" and you can't say that of many cars today. (For older readers, I grew up with elderly Ford Anglia and Renault 16s, the column shift cars with the gearbox in front of the engine, so I guess "quirky" has always had its appeal).

I don't dislike the F/L Yeti, although like some other forum members I wonder why two derivatives, but I am glad I got mine when I did.

After over two years of ownership mine is in immaculate condition,  I "love" my Yeti very much , just ask SWMBO and she will tell you she wishes I would give my family as much  attention as I give the Yeti...

That is utter nonsense,of course>When I give the Yeti a good clean and wash every fortnight or so and ask the kids if they want to  to lend a hand they evaporate...... :giggle:
