How To: Install Front Door Puddle LED's

Featured Replies

Ok Folks,

I can't claim this was my idea but thought i would share a few pics of my install to what is a really chap great mod.

Here goes a very cheap and simple mod that was done in less than 30 minutes. (most of that time was cleaning stuff and measuring lol)

Here is a link to what I purchased

At £2 a side is a bargain for a foot long strip of 12 led's

First I decided where to fit them

I decided on the lower part of the door plastic panel. Need to be careful that you do not fit the Led'd too far back as the door rubbers will be very close when door is shut. As the door panel rises slightly as it faces the car interior placing them off center is fine.

Some folks have fitted the strip on the plastic lip between door panel pocket to be safe. I did not want to be able to see the strip so went with my option and i can confirm where i fitted does not hit anything. But is personal choice really.

I then used a combination of tar and glue remover and panel wipe to clean up any dirt and grease and de wax to make the adhesive stick better.

As it was a cold morning i warmed up the led strips to ensure a better stick to plastic also.

Before fitting, I tested where to  position then and when happy i used a 3mm drill to drill a hole to pass the wires up to the std door lights to take a feed from.

Then I removed backing and then feed wires through hole and stuck led strip down. It stuck really well and felt secure.

I then removed the std door light and pulled wires through then it was a case of just scotch locking the led wires onto existing door light loom.

the results are very good

They must have been reading this thread. They increased the price of the LEDs!

Bought some, both white and green...!

Really basic question here but.... how is the best way to get the door panel lights out? From the back (undo the door panel at the bottom) or some way from the front? I gave mine a wee nudge with a flat headed screw driver but for fear of braking the lens I gave up.  :whew:

They can come out from front without having to undo panel

They do feel a little fragile.  If you get 2 flat screwdrivers and carefully insert at either end and push in the plastic plug they will pop out quite easy

I can do it with only 1 screwdriver but used to getting them out now.

Installed mine today, green.

Will wait tonight for a true test, anyway white looks better (with green you see the single leds more..)

Same install with 3mm drill, had a bit trouble wiring it up because the connector for the standard door light is really short so I drilled the housing of the bulb and connected the wires directly to the bulb :bandit:

Switched to white because the green ones where a bit "toxic" and didn't match well with the crew leds (I tought it could be good to recall some green from skoda brand but it is not...)

White are fine!

Thanks for the guide..!
