Wipers -How much!

Featured Replies

Had to replace one of my front wipers as it was leaving horrendous streaks - I couldn't see anything, but I had tried to clean it several times with both soapy water and alcohol and only succeeded in making the problem worse.

The Wiper blades are sold singly at a cost of £22 -ouch! I got a 20% discount on that, but still £17.60 still seems a bit steep.

While trying to find the service position for the wipers -in order to replace them, I found that if you hold the stalk in the down position with the ignition on, the wipers run at maximum speed for as long as you hold it -handy to know and not mentioned in the manual.

Did you check ebay? Many sellers put together and sell pairs of wipers for all types of cars, including Bosch.

Cool tip about the panic wipe! I knew that just pushing the stalk down initiates a single wipe, I've never held it down though.

I've had bad experiences with using non manufacturer wipers -even genuine Bosch ones have given me juddering and squeaking etc.

Can't help on cost of blades but service position is found by switching off ignition then push down on wiper stalk and release

Depends on the quality ( and the name). I've seen a pair of blades in B & M as low as 99p.( I tried a pair out of curiosity and still going strong ,even through MOT). One other thing to look at .Have you got a stone chip. One glass firm ( think it was autoglass) were fitting Bosch ones free when you got a stone chip done. Haven't seen the ad since as they're more into chips becoming cracks in winter . On mine I regularly rub the windscreen over with a cheap washing up liquid to take of the grease , but dad's old tip was vinegar and a newspaper .

I bought some wiper blades for my MK2 from a VW dealer, they were a fraction of the price. There was a thread a few years back on here where loads of people were buying from VW dealers.

Definitely the wiper blade as replacing it cured the problem instantly. The parts guy did come out with me to the car to check that I was happy that the problem was fixed -you do get a little bit more for paying the extra and going to your dealer.

Is that all? At the moment I have a touran and they vary between forty and sixty dependant upon halfords have them in!

Mk2 fl has VM310 aero blades on the front, got a pair for around £10.99 incl delivery on amazon.

Not sure if they are the same size on your mk3, worth a good look around.

The man/women above paying silly money for your blades here is a link not sure on your year but worth a look

Most expensive set around £26 :)

Good luck

Or just buy the refill kit from vw. About £15 and should do all 3 blades.

Part number for the RHD Octavia 3 driver's side wiper is: 5E2-955-426 with the 5E prefix -I assume it's an Octavia 3 specific part (it's printed on the clip of the wiper).

Halfords are not cheap and they love to charge money to fit bulbs and wipers for people that can't or don't want to do it themselves.
