How much?!?!?!?!?!?!

Featured Replies

Just asked Bickerton Skoda for a price on an 80k service (timing belt/water pump) for the wife's vRS and they've told me £743 quid!!!!!!!

Am I right in thinking that's rather steep...... Sure it was under £500 when she had it done at 40k.

Cheers

ask them for 50% discount

Take it to an Indy it will cost less than £500

Jesus Christ! That's expelnsive. Ross (techie his name on here) did mine recently , top quality workmanship. Trust his work completely and his rates are very good. Might be a bit of a travel for you but I would highly recommend him.

Blimey!!!

I paid £250 for my local VAG specialist for a cambelt and waterpump change.

I can recommend Autohaus Dolby in Sheffield for servicing etc. I've had great service from them.

A major service with them is £149. You'd have to give them a ring for the cambelt/waterpump prices though.

I nipped round to the local independent place near us, (Actually called Independent Cars), who's service guys are ex VW. They've quoted £550 for the major service and the timing belt/water pump. They did the last timing belt and 40k service along with the flywheel and clutch at the same time as the flywheel had gone.

Booked in for next week.

***EDIT***

Just seen your post inventory-photo..... Given Autohaus Dolby a bell and they can do it for £448 inc VAT..... Think i'll be cancelling the other one and booking it in there instead.

I never understand why people take cars anywhere near a main dealer for standard servicing. Warranty is valid so long as whoever does it uses original parts. I guess a main dealer service might retain a tiny extra fraction of value but I can't imagine it is much.

Or slide down the A617 to Chesterfield VWSpecialist, time-served and excellent.

That's where SWMBO took her vRS last time, and will take her current vRS there too

Matt there really seems to know his stuff too, so you'll be in good hands.

If the courtesy car's booked up, you're only a 5min tram ride from Meadowhall, so I tend to bob over there for a coffee and to pick up a few things while they do the work rather than depriving someone else of the car when they may need it more. They always get stuff done double quick, so I normally just have time for a coffee and a bit of a potter about.

Booked in next Monday with Autohaus Dolby. Courtesy car booked too. :)

Had a few others recommend him too so that made the decision easier.

Excellent. Great saving :)

Ok you guys who've used Autohaus Dolby before....... I've just realised one of the jobs that was going to be looked at on Monday is something i can probably cure myself, (What i now know to be the common sticking rear calliper sorted with the £3 spring from Audi fix!!!) I can't get the spring till after the car is in on Monday so won't be able to do it myself till AFTER it's been in for the service etc....

What's the chap like if i explain the situation and say i think i want to do that job myself etc....

Is he pretty understanding like that???? He was thinking it would be a new calliper at god knows how much and was gonna order one in just in case he needed it etc....

That price quote is way off target 'WaveyDavey'

Your looking at around the £350.00 mark to include Timing belt,  Alternator belt, New Water-Pump and renew all pink G12 anti-freeze.

This is the figure I paid in 2010, so even with parts and labour going-up would still put it under £400.00 mark..

I think you did well to get a price as low as that.... I was exstatic with the £450 i got it to (including the major 40k/80k service). Nowhere else in this area would come any where near the price you paid.

I take it that price included the major 40k/80k service aswell as the timing belt/waterpump kit???

No service with that job, was done as a stand-alone job.

I do my own full servicing every year, so just add £80.00 for just parts/oils used..

I've done better then as I'm only paying £300 for the timing belt/water pump part of it. :)

Dave.

Sorry for the late post back. I've had a very busy weekend. Apologies if it's too late too.

They're generally a bit more thorough than that and will investigate the issue for you. I thought I had the same issue with sticking rear brakes, requiring a stronger spring, but all it needed was the callipers cleaning up and thorough check over when I had the pads/discs done (they needed doing as the heat from the binding brakes had turned the discs blue and crumbled the pads!). I've no brake issues now and didn't end up paying out any extra.

I'd have a chat to them about the issue so they can investigate and show you what needs doing (if anything at all). If you don't want a new calliper fitting, just let them know.

Let us know how you get on WaveyDavey, always keen to contrast and compare independents; when SWMBO vRS needs doing I'll get a price from Chesterfield Vw specialist and Autohaus Dolby.

If you don't mind, would you give us a price breakdown?
