Fabia II questions for potential new owner

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

My wife is considering changing her mk1 vRS for a Fabia II. Whilst her vRS is still going strong at 105k miles the cost of insurance is going up and she just doesn't use the performance. She does 7-8k a year mileage (and mostly around town < 5miles) and so I am considering a move back to petrol for her.

She loves the looks of the Fabia II (would love a copper with white roof) and so asked me questions I don't know the answers for.

I am looking at 2010 onwards cars and probably 1.2TSi (hopefully 105BHP), on to the questions:

  1. How easy is it to retro fit bluetooth and what is the pre-reqs for doing so. Currently has an MKi-9200 fitted but loves the integrated BT in my Superb. What are the rough costs involved?
  2. If the car doesn't include cruise; can it be retro-fitted and is it expensive?
  3. How reliable is the DSG when combined with the TSi 105 engine? Is it suited to town stop start driving and how much maintenance do they need?

Is there anything we should be weary of and carefully check?

Thanks

If it has the SWING stereo, then a Bluetooth retrofit should be nothing more than a module and a set of cables; did mine myself for just over £100.

Not sure on cruise.

DSG - I'm a convert; excellent around town and damned good fun on the open road.

If it has a Dance radio does that make it more difficult?

Which ones the dance? I wasnt aware this was available on the fabia II?

I thought about fitting cruise control on mine, only briefly looked into it but decided it would cost be somewhere between about £200 and £250.

As above. Bluetooth can apparently be fitted yourself without too much fuss. Removing radio, top glove box, trim up the a pillar and interior light. (All pretty much pops off apparently). If you can get the right bluetooth module at the right price it might be worth doin, but they can be expensive.

I test drove the 1.2 tsi 105 and loved it. Brilliant engine

Oh and you may need someone with VCDS to make all the options work with bluetooth, not sure if cruise requires this too.

Apparently needs a visit with VCDS if you want the steering wheel "Answer" to work.  I've never bothered..

Bluetooth module was from a Golf off eBay; about £65 from memory.

Cables £40-45 or so from that place in Poland.

Went outside one evening to see how tricky it was going to be, removing trim etc.  Just over an hour later, it was in and working.

Don't suppose you have part numbers? :-D

7P6-035-730-J    (this one is over priced as they often are)

the letter on the end denotes age or features I think, this is the one I have, have you considered getting in touch with eddieNL he has some stuff occasionally ?

There are a lot of broken ones on ebay, search bluetooth in fabia 2 section should throw up the link to the shop in poland best priced and new stock

Thanks everyone for your input.

The Dance is a 2 Din CD + MP3 headunit. The swing certainly looks better.

What it appears to tell me is that crucial to get the cruise as standard and then fit BT later.

Would spend up to £8500 max and I think we can get far more with a petrol model than diesel

Probably fit bt + cruise and have quite abit of change for £8500 mate ;) lol

don;t know about the first 2 , but the DSG is awsome, the 7-speed dry clutch box (onthe 105tsi) is maintinance free, so you dont need to spend anything on it, it has no inherent problems, i've done over 60k with these boxes and they have been fine... town driving is good, as you get the "creep" that you get with a conventional auto, and the hill hold prevents any rolling back :) I will never go back to a manual now ;) if you think about how I abuse the box on my 180 bhp vRS on the track ect ect and its fine, being driven gently in the 105 1.2 should mean it will last forever ;)

Correct me if im wrong my if you looking at a fabia with a Dance unit, your looking at a preface (pre 2010) this means it wont have rhe 1.2tsi. So if your looking at a 1.2fabia its probley the HTP 1.2

Also the real word differences between the 86ps and 105ps TSI units are minor its just numbers on paper in my opinion

As above bluetooth retrofit is easyish diy job with the swing unit and Maxidot. Good thread on here somewhere, may be linked above, too early to be looking, sry! I forget what it cost me but I got my unit with all the necessary connections from the shop in Poland who are good if a little slow at replying at times. If you have the MFSW then you will be able to use this for answering if it is enabled via VCDS although it is not a straight forward thing to do, I think there is updated info in the thread now but when ai tried to get mine done it wouldn't work for some reason but I can do what ai need to via the stalk control.

Cruise can be retro fitted, several places offer it like Shark who are a sponsor on here, they may have a price on their website.

If you buy from a dealer, they can retrofit the factory cruise control - it's in the accessories catalogue

Just to bump my own thread! We brought a Kia C'eed (58 plate 1.6 petrol) in the end last February. Whilst a good car we haven't gelled with it and I find it uncomfortable on long journies meaning my Superb is piling on the miles instead. So we're off to look at a 10 plate Elegance Estate in black (two black elegance modeled Skoda's is a bit his and hers! Whoops) on Friday to swap them.

I'm pretty much set and done deal in my head just need to convince SWMBO. As I'm funding the cost to change I think I have final say! Anyway it is a 1.2 TSI 105and very well specced. It has curve lights, heated seats and fr rr parking sensors over the elegance model. Apparently hasn't got Bluetooth (but has cruise) so I'll need to retro fit.

My question is that I currently have 2 BT modules for my Superb at home; rSAP only And HFP only one. Could I fit the HFP one into the Fabia if I had the cable set and fit the rSAP only one into mine ( until I can upgrade to a rSAP/HFP/Hotspot in the Superb)?

Thanks
