Fan runs after engine switch off

Featured Replies

I took delivery of a Skoda Octavia Elegance 2.0TDI last Monday, but in that time have had two occurrences of the fan running on for 2 to 3 minutes after engine switch off. The manual suggests that this is happening because a dpf regenration has been interrupted. I have had experience of this in my previous diesel car but it was more like every 2 or 3 months, not twice in the first 2 weeks of ownership.

Do people know if this is a particular trait with this car when it is new and the problem dissipates in time or should I be having a word with the dealer?

I would point out that the second occurrence of this happening was after a 6 mile journey on dual carriageway on a cold day so engine maybe had just reached temperature when I got home.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Yep its a DPF regen, mine did a good few in the first 1k miles, has calmed down now.  A few people on here have found the same.

Thanks for the info, good to know it happens to others too.

Noticed same tonight after with only 300 miles on clock. Smelt like regen...blamed pottering around in eco...so went for short blast in sport! No fan issue now

Sounds like a regen. Mine did it's first after 120miles.

I reckon, as you suspected, it's a trait of the system when new. Mine twice in the first couple of weeks had the fan "running on" after switching off , but during the last 6 weeks has behaved impeccably !
