my new headache!

Featured Replies

Hi all im new here and have just picked this up for £650 as it has a few small problems!!

First off it had a very cheap dump valve on, some major boost spike, its been mapped by a car park tuner & a bit of a dint on the boot lid.but being a mechanic, i thought i had picked up a bargain.

Got it back and onto our lift and noticed a de-cat had been fitted. Plugged it into our computer and ran live data and it said it was boost spiking at 2.1 bar! so i ordered a cat for it and a forge dv but still no difference so changed plugs, checked for boost and vacuum leaks and changed the n74 and bypassed the n249 all with no luck so i have hopefully narrowed it down to this crap map. so it is going to matt at trl to get mapped properly on his rr. my only thing now is do i go for a map on standard set up or do i upgrade to k04 set up while im on?

Bargain-tastic!

£650 is a bargain problems or not. And its the fastest colour.

What wheels are they, standard painted black?

No the previous clown binned the original wheels, they are 17inch golf tdi wheels. The de-cat will go back on just wanted to rule everything out. i suppose it is still a bargain just spending £600 on it and not being much better off is a bit sickening! Might see if i can find an unlocked leon ecu instead of getting this set up mapped.

£650!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What miles has it done?

WTF!!!!! Bargain of the century mate. How come so cheap?

What a Bargain there.

Yep a AUQ engine VRS or Leon cupra ECU may be a good option.

Can't you take any logs of the fueling / air  etc of your current ECU to determine what is gong on..

I had a really bad boost spiking on a postal map jobbie. I liked it coz it was cheap and aggressive map but not very drive able. It failed a MOT one day due to over fueling.

Turned out to be the postal map and junked it as soon as to get a well known map installed and cleared my boost spiking.

I don't know lots about these yet but that is one heck of a bargain.!

hybrid ko3s rather than the ko4 setup, less work.

if you don't wanna spend much, then leave it stock and leave now

The bloke was skint. he knew it had boosting issues and needed discs and pads and that the back end needed painted. It set off at £1500 got him down to £1000 over the phone so knew i could push further. so went to see it and started to walk away he told me to make him an offer so i did and he took it! The joys of selling cars and knowing my way around them!

Ill grab my coat!

My missus drives it to work everyday day and she would soon have wrote off so dont want to push the power to far 250bhp would do me fine!

Id get the map sorted (standard or stage 1) and get the engine behaving nicely first

2.1 bars boost?

And didn't blow off?

Bargain!

IMO I'd keep it standard ;) but running perfect.
