What is better about the Contis? Continental i presume you are on about?

I came over the brow of rise in the road I know well on my way to work early one morning, I found a car coming the opposite way in the middle of the road trying to pick his way through 4" of running water from a burt water main, I was doing 80 ! I had about 200 yards

Just a good blend of grip and durability for all year round use, I don't bother with winters. On my Superb, Continental Sport Contacts lasted for 60k on the rears and over 30k on the fronts. The last pair on the front had done 32k and still had 3mm of tread but the inner side walls were starting to wear heavily, apparently quite common if you regularly go over those little square speed humps!

Cheers. Will bear those in mind when i eventually need new tyres. Anything likely to last. Plus something not too noisy. Although common sense to me seems to suggest it'll either be one or the other!!

James, no worries on road noise when driving a TDI, the engine noise drowns it out, unless you stall a lot..... LMAO

I'm only kidding with you, nothing personal.

Im not the only one stalling the diesel by the seems of it! Nah, not happened for a couple of days now. Much more used to it.

Actually ive found the diesel engine is very quiet, and the road noise drowns the engine noise out. Especially on the motorway.  Thankfully ive yet to stall on the motorway!!

Don't worry James, I'm so scaried of stalling I ordered the DSG 1.4 TSI.

No mate, we didn't stall, its the stop/start working perfectly......LOLOL

Do you normally drive like a lunatic?

Thats what i was thinking. 80 on what sounds like a single carriageway road. I bet he's extremely grateful for the good brakes. Boy that would have been an expensive insurance pay out.

Wowsers.  Those tyres must be great.  I must get some.  Forget your brain and the tyres will save you eh?  I hate point out the obvious but lots of peoples lives are wiped out and families decimated by the attitudes and behaviour of people like yourself and fellow lunatics such as the one who talks on a different post of pushing BMWs and Mercedes out of the way on the Autobahns like driving is some kind of game.

I wonder what would have happened if the person approaching you was an elderly person like my parents with slower reactions who tend to drive a good distance away from the kerb as that that was the advise given to many more mature motorists. Oh well, let's not dwell on that eh, I'm sure it's no concern of yours.

Suddenly this forum doesn't look like such a positive place.

Guys whilst you have a point, to a lesser degree than you may think, to explain, the road in question has a national speed limit yes, single carriageway road but still, a 60.  It was 4am, I drive the road 6 days a week, yes some complacency had set-in, its natural human nature.

As for the brakes yes, they are upgraded drilled & slotted discs with red stuff pads, I wouldn't have had it anyother way having had both a tuning box and performance air filter fitted, you make it go faster, then you've gotta make it stop faster. as for the tyres well yes, they were upgrades too.  I should have made it more clear in my original post, there was no collision and niether car nor occupants damaged or hurt.

Might point was CSC3's performance in both the dry and very wet conditons are well beyond the expectations I originally had of them.

I think it was pretty clear in the post that there was no collision it was probably the way you made it sound like a cool thing to do that irked people.

Look I'm no angel and I've done some daft things on the road especially in my younger days, but I think its best left unsaid.

Bit like the guys bragging about speeds they've achieved on the autobahns on another thread, well done but not really that impressive.

You live and learn.

Luckily for you ;)

Had Dunlop Sport Maxx replaced under warranty on our Fabia; they were making the thing try turn left all the time (not drift or pull but turn) :S

Not a fan of Conti's either but their not so PremiumContact 2, poor wet grip and uneven wear leading to vibration.

Thankfully the tyres have been just fine so far

Hello so sorry I did not see this thread when it was started! Which salesman did you deal with? I bought my octy 3 from them as well.

Also I have also stalled it once. Tried to pull away from a standstill in 2nd lol whoops! However if you're moving a little and give it a bit of beans it doesn't stall. (Well hasn't done it to me again since but might be cos it's bedded in more now?)

Are you coming to either of the Kent meets in January? I would love to have a nosey round a new hatch!

Dealt with Richard. Nice guy. Typical car salesman though. Youd never believe there were any known problems with any Skodas if you just spoke to him!! Gets things done with the minimum of fuss and very efficiently. Which is both good and bad.

Went back in today and went home with my old Ford which i previously part ex'd. That car is for my dad now. So glad she's back in the family. Im afraid a Skoda just does not drive like a Ford. Still, the Octy has a much nicer interior, and drinks less fuel. Im doing on a 50 litre tank, what I couldnt do on a 55 litre one. But thats the difference between Diesel and petrol. Just got to work out whether im better off considering the difference in price for the fuel.

Highly doubt i'll be going to any meets. Not my thing. Im just a normal car driver who right now likes the look of the Octavia. Im not even much of a car person. Dont think there'd be much of interest for me. Sorry.

Ah it was Richard I dealt with as well. Did he tell you he owns a micropub in Margate? lol. Next time I see him I shall tell him off for telling you porkies! Saying that I think what they say regarding discounts or offers varies from day to day and garage to garage. Ashford said they would match canterbury for price then backtracked and said they wouldnt give any discount at all. Deal were rubbish and neither knew what they were selling nor bothered to find the answers to my questions.

Ahh fair enough re the meets. They are more a social thing that just for petrol heads (you def dont have to know a lot about cars haha cos I sure as heck dont!) but its nice to put faces to usernames and to nosey around others cars hehe.

A bit of a Kent love in going on, all I can add to it is that I passed my driving test in Canterbury around 30 years ago.

Yes he did the day i picked the car up. Apparently he goes to work there after finishing his day at Motorline. Told us today he never had any power until the evening of Xmas day. Oops!

He denied the old Octy had any problems regarding wind noise around the doors, even though all publications have pretty much said the same thing. He just brushed off what any publications said. My mum asked him what Skoda's are like regarding rust. He said modern cars dont rust anymore! Obviously he's never kept a car long enough!

The most honest salesman ive come across is at another dealers in Kent (location to remain a secret for obvious reasons!). I went in to see if they had any brochures for the new Yeti, as someone I know may be interested. Got on to talking about the numerous Skoda models. His remarks about the Rapid- "Wouldnt touch it with a barge pole". Skoda thought a lot of Octy Mk2 drivers would transfer to the Rapid. At this specific dealership hardly anybody did. Reason being because the interior trim is just not up to scratch. Its basically cheap for a reason. Now thats honesty. Would be interesting to see what he would have been like if i had been interested in a Rapid!

TBH I knew more things about the mk3 and the vrs than he did (mostly thanks to Brisky!). Im surprised that he said cars dont rust though! Esp being on the coast with the salty air!! Its common sense not rocket science lol.

Interesting what your chap says about the rapid. I thought the outside looked nice but it was too small for me to consider so I never looked into it. So how comes you didnt buy from your honest sales friend if you dont mind me asking? Or he is not in skoda sales?

;) come on and live a little! You never know you might enjoy yourself! If nothing else its a good excuse to get out of your dressing gown and slippers, ditch the pipe and newspaper and go eat out for the evening

Id already purchased the car when i came across the honest salesman.

Rapid probably would have done me size wise but it just isnt up to the same standard as the Octy. Anyway, cant beat a large car, even when its only ever 1 person in it!

Oh, and dont knock my slippers.

Well thats very kind of you. Where are you taking me? ;)

You have honest salesmen? I'd settle for one who knows something about the car :)
