I have octavia 1

and I want to replace the speaker on the front doors

and I want to know

what is the diameter of the speakers ?

They are 6 1/2" in diameter, though I'm not sure why we're talking quite so "LARGE"!!!!!

 

Though the mounting depth is more important. Most 6 1/2" components are too deep and will foul the window. I think 68mm is about the limit, but it might be less...

whats the size of the OE rear speakers ? My car has the speakers placed on the plank replacing the parcel shelf and i want to get back to my parcel shelf 

Saloon cars have 5 1/4" components in the rear doors.

 

Estate cars have 4X6" components in the rear side shelves and the tweeters in the doors. BUT, it is very difficult to find a speaker that is actually an upgrade on the Estates. It is also difficult to seal up the enclosure for many aftermarket speakers, and even then I found it not really worth it for the Rockford Fosgates that I fitted. :(

How come some have shelves and some have them in the door cards? Is it a model thing or an age thing?

I've never seen an Octavia hatch with rear door speakers (other than the tweeters)

I must be on drugs then. Coulda sworn the tDi I took as a part ex last year had factory fitment in the doors. I must be too used to the Golfs. :think:

This is how mine looks!!! As stated I have not seen any hatch with rear door speakers...

MIne has the rear speakers in the panels either side of the shelf, too.  The tweeters for the rear are at the top of the rear doors though.

Hatchback's don't have speaker in the doors, they have the 5 1/4" (13.5cm) speakers in the rear side shelfs, the only have tweeters in the doors.

 

Although most people unplug those rubbish tweeters for a immediate tune up to sound.

 

Fronts are 6 1/2" (16.5cm)  

Does anyone have any recommendations on replacement speakers? I was discussing replacing ours today with the wife as the ones fitted sound pants!!!

I can recommend fitting a small active sub in the back.  an 8 inch flat one I used fits in the mesh pocket and takes up no room!  The stock system just has no bass and the sound is thin.  This really helps beef it up.

I messed about with speakers a few years ago on my Octavia. Virtually any aftermarket speaker is a major improvement over the standard ones. However, what I found was replacing the fronts isn't easy because the doors aren't deep enough to take the big magnets of the more powerful speakers. The standard tweeters are c**p so you'll need component speakers which is speaker, tweeter and a crossover unit. The standard head unit is also c**p! So you need to replace that as well because it isn't powerful enough to runaaftermarket speakers. There isn't anything on the standard system that can be used if you want to improve it. I found jbl really good. I had component ones that fitted the in the front doors and located the tweeters in the standard position. 6x9 speakers on the parcel shelf too with amplifier and clarion head unit. I got fed up messing about with it after a while put it back to standard!

The standard head unit is probably the worst part as it compresses audio like bu99ery. Awful thing.

Yeah its an awful thing even by the standards of the time. I had an old c reg sierra that had a better sound system than the Octavia. I'm not sure wattage per channel but its as well the speakers are as equally bad! I originally ran the stock head unit with uprated speakers it didn't have enough power to run them! This needs to be everyone's starting point.
