correct way to prog keys ?

Featured Replies

Hi All, I enabled the fog/turn lights, reset the service (UDL), changed the glow plugs (3 faulty), informed the car it had clean oil,and checked the rear fog lights go off when towing, my wife drove it the next day and when coming home called to put some diesel in and noticed it didn't respond to the alarm keyfob, I used VCDS and spotted 955 error - incorrect basic setting/adaptation on key 1,also 00179 error - incorrect key programming, also 00907- intervension load management ? I have had tried some info on ross techs website but to no avail, the module fitted is - IK0 937 087 D - I have done a few auto scans before and after so can I revert it back and if so how ? cheers - Stuart

I take it that the keyfob battery is in a reasonable state for voltage, and has not died of old age?, a lot of those codes relate to low voltage of one form or another. Is vehicle battery voltage ok when running and when switched off - have you done any voltmeter checks at all?.

Hi Phil, First thing I did was change the keyfob battery and I checked the old one and that was 3v, will check the car volts but I don't think it will be that as it starts OK and the coming home lights are nice and bright, I will give it another scan and see if anything else is flagged up but I think its problem is with a correct key programing list for my module. thanks for the reply - Stuart

this is the correct method, copy & pasted from Ross-tech wiki

Remote Control Adaptation [select] [46 - Cent. Conv.]

[Adaptation - 10] Channel 01 Read] This will display the number of currently stored remotes in "Stored Value".

Enter your total number of keys up to a maximum of 4 (including any existing keys) in "New Value" [Test] Verify that the number in "Test Value" is correct. [save]

When the prompt asks if you are sure you want to save a value of x to Channel 01, click [Yes] Press and hold (for at least one second) the UNLOCK button on the fob, at which time it will be learned.

If you're programming more than one fob press and hold the UNLOCK button on the second fob for one second, press and hold the UNLOCK button on the third fob for one second, etc. You have a total of 15 seconds to do them all. The car may give you some sort of acknowledgment as each key is learned (lights flash, horn beep, etc.)

Also i'm not that far from you so if you need a hand give me a shout. I have full VCDS & couple of other bits of VAG kit

Hi 'actionman' thanks for that, I have tried a couple of methods and the car doesn't make any sounds when pressing keys to enter the keyfobs and when I exit with VCDS there is no confirmation ! and I cannot delete the fault codes, if the wiki showed an ECU number that it worked on then I could narrow it down as that method would work OK, my wife's driving the car to work and back as I am working on her car (fabia), I think I will try resetting the ECU to basic settings and see if that clears the fault. cheers - Stuart

no probs, i've seen a similar problem with a mates old Octavia. We couldn't get VCDS to program his remote but 1 of my other bits of kit would. So if you get stuck just let me know & i can pop in & take a look when i'm on my travels as i get over your way a fair bit

have you fitted the BCM or is it the original?

Hi Eddie, whats a BCM ?

Body control module. Although with VAG they're called comfort control modules

are you replying via a mobile? If on a PC/ Laptop, try using 'Full Editor'. If on mobile, scroll to the bottom, click 'full version' then when replying, again click 'use full editor' (I think)!?

it's on my laptop. What i have done now is instead of pressing "enter" on keyboard twice so that it leaves 1 line between paragraphs i press it 3 times which leaves 2 lines between. This seems to work
