My wife changed her policy today from a mkII vrs tdi, 61 plate to our new 62 Fabia Monte Carlo 1.6tdi.

We ar 5 months into the policy which has been paid in full for the year.

Protected no claims

Myself as named driver

No other changes, just the car.

So the car value is approx 4k less

It's half the size

65bhp less

Has same alarm, immobiliser etc

The difference we get back...£23 less £15 admin charge so a grand total of £8!

I think the total premium initially was around £300

How can this be correct?! Got no kind of justifiable answer. Can't really cancel the policy either as we loose almost half a year built up in no claims, pay more fees to cancel and then outlay more for another full new policy.

Probably the policy cost is based more on you and where you live rather than the vehicle.

Strange really. Got quote for new mkIII octy vrs that's due to arrive next year and its nearly £70 cheaper that the mkII

Ive found insurance is all ****** and pot-luck.

 

Fully declared 200bhp supercharged MX5 £280

Std Octy 2004 Mk1 vRS Estate... difficult to insure... managed to get £380 (many quotes were over double that)

Am changing the Octy to a Citigo, so down 120bhp! and best quote ive had so far is looking like ill get nothing back from continuing the Octy policy

 

I do remember having a rather entertaining argument with a popular "enthusiast" insurer asking about my driving history and the fact an octavia estate was more risky to drive compared to a supercharged mx5.. 

 

Do your homework, and be satisfied with the best deal you can find.. as we all get screwed the same.

I've found that my Monte was £40-£50 more to insure than a VRS of the same age??, never really questioned why as I had already bought the Monte
