Octavia 1.9 sdi 2004 3 alternators new battery ! Alternator still not charging battery :(

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a fabia 1.2 2005 and a octavia 1.9sdi , my fabia is in getting the head done ;( so using my wife's octavia sdi drove into town to pick up my new xbox one which wasn't there ;( the octavia headlights dimmed radio off , looked at the dash and the battery light was on followed by the abs light then airbag light then the car just stopped ! No power to turn it over and in the middle of heavy traffic and its dark , ;( pushed the car to the side of the road and popped the bonnet , done all the usual checks and everything looked ok , earth wires ok , I just knew it was the alternator ! So i got a push bump started her and tryed to get her home with no lights on " not advisable and dangerous DONT DO THIS THE POLICE GOT ME " but they helped me push it and got it going for another 50 Mtrs so AA ended up towing me home ! I'm handy with a spanner and soon had the old alternator out ! As i do with certain parts on my car i sourced a new one brand new ! Stuck it in and put the jump leads on got her going and no charge coming from the alternator she just dies when there's no juice left in the battery , pulled the alternator out and brought it back i told the guy what i done ! He was very helpful and swiched for another shiney new one straight away but he did say i should buy a new battery because it would put to much stress on a new alternator on a dead battery , so bought a new battery put in the alternator and she only drove until the battery ran out of juice ! DAM not again , so alternator out brought back changed again for new and lovingly put back in as i done it so many times now ! Same happening no charge from alternator ! Checked fuses and they are ok but gonna change them tommorrow the fuses on top of the battery , there is 3 ! On the 1.9 sdi one is for the alternator but i swiched them around and no difference , , my freind is coming with a multimeter tomorrow

BUT GUYS PLEASE i have seen simaler posts on here but no solutions posted ! I PROMISE to post my fix if i fix it ! Please can anyone steer me in the right direction the wires from the alternator look sound and the connector plug no corrosion and at the fuse box on the battery ? I am at a loss what is going on !

Please help me i have posts on about my fabia on the site I'm having a nightmare , my octavia has drove trouble free for 5 years now mot first time every year and no problems or breakdowns just tyres and services !

Cheers in advance and sorry for the long post

Robert

I would start with a multi-meter and check the cable from the alternator back to the battery and ensure it isn't broken.  Check all earths too.

Sounds like a simple wiring/fuse fault to me (given you have changed the alternator and battery).  Ensure the fuses (and the fuse holder) is all sound - they have a tendency to melt when the crimp joints on the cables start to fail and gain resistance (thus generating heat).

Check the connections & fuses on top of the battery. As mbames states there is an issue with the crimp connections on the alternator & starter motor cables.
