I'd love to know why some of the car magazines feel the need to "bully" the Rapid so much. 2 stars for performance for example is just not realistic IMO. I'm sure the performance of the 1.6TDI is completely normal for a car of that size with a 1.6 litre diesel engine.

I wouldn't add more!

Completely agree with you RapidRonnie, I've just bought the 1.2 TSI rapid and I've come from a 200+bhp Leon FR and I honestly dont see any problems with the performance of the Rapid at all. I test drove the 1.6 tdi and the 1.2 tsi and both surprised me. What surprised me even more is how strong the 1.2 tsi pulls over 60mph!!!

Me too. I have the 105TSI and am constantly surprised by how well it's picks up speed. Fantastic engine. What I find is strange is how the Tdi or Tsi is considered a great engine in an Audi A3 for example but not very good in a Skoda Rapid? It's the same engine? Car reviewers really have to come back to the real world. If we could all afford to spend £40k plus on a car then of course the comfort and quality of the interiors would be a bit better, but why compare a humble chicken egg to a Fabergé egg when they are clearly not the same thing. Time they started reviewing cars based on the target audience. The Rapid is an inexpensive, well made, comfortable, adequately powered sensible family car, of course it'll compare badly next to an overpriced, bells and whistle laden Audi.

Rant over ????

Bear in mind that the writer Ollie Kew is a youngster and newbie to CAR, managed to spec a £12,640 UP! and, having tested both UP and Citigo, made fun of the Citigo and then clearly noted his preference for the VW badge and the background becomes clear...

Sounds like he's in the wrong job.

This is why I don't pay much attention to reviews in general. Car, film, music, TV, toilet roll, being a magazine reviewer seems simply to be a license to spout unmitigated *******s.

Tsi looks like the best combination. Quick enough with decent torque and a better drivers car!

I agree.

The 1.6 CR is a bit of a rumbler.

Amazing really because going from a 1.9tdi it originally felt quiet.  Unless they've cut corners on the soundproofing now.

Time moves on I guess.

TSI is a cracking little engine.

I had a Yeti 1.2 Tiptronic in Portugal last year as a hire car. Having a 170 CR vRS as my regular car, I thought it was going to be awful, under powered and generally slow. How wrong I was.
