Thought Prime was more of an advanced AIO to use before Jett. But I haven't used Werkstatt prods before. They sound very technical and durable.

My current sealant is Spray version of Hellshine Abyss from Autobrite, prepped with Hellshine Eliminator paint cleanser, don't intend to cover with Wax as specifically using for the Hydrophobic effect. Will only top with Sonax QD. From his posts Chris is using the Hellshine Abyss but the paste

Yes...

Don't forget the best product ever.........Sonax Xtreme BSD :sun:

One of my thoughts when I did this was to see if there was a stage between lazy buggers who don't wash their cars very often (like me) and you guys (at the opposite end of the spectrum) without having to buy loads of products and spend a full day (or two) detailing their car.

Essentially, protecting the paintwork without spending massive amounts of time and cash.

I've come to realise that preparation is key but after it's done and protected (waxed or sealed) then I was hoping to only need to 'top up' what was used.

I know I'm trying to simplify it a lot, but I bet there are a lot of people who want to look after their paintwork but don't have the detailing bug or ('and' in my case), don't have the money.

I think you are looking for a good sealant and QD combo to give what you mention.

I am a time poor Dad, with a young family, I'd love to give my car more time but seen as I can't I have looked for products that can deliver A LOT. Once sealed, I can snow foam, wash and dry my car in a shade over thirty minutes and return it to a near just detailed standard. If I post on longer sessions, these are the few and far between hard negotiated exceptions to the rule.

I think this is what you are looking for, only issue is the products you have tested won't deliver that base protection and durability of a slightly higher end sealant.

On the money side I fully agree, but these are products that when applied right can last 6 months.

But for a true budget clean up with good results I'd go prewash, rinse, wash, rinse, dry, Sonax Xtreme BSD, done. You can kit out the first bits prewash/wash/dry with £20.00 at Asda inc cloths etc. Sonax BSD is £14.00 and would last best part of a year with moderate wash intervals.

I concur

Just use Sonax BSD and nothing else, if the cost of a wax and/or sealer/time is your concern

It lasts ages on the car and protects as well as anything TBH

Sounds line Sonax will fit the bill then.

Thanks guys.

Good Morning.

I must say I like the sound of this `Sonax` stuff.

Tell me...would it be a waste to apply it after I'd washed the car and already used AG Rapid Detailer as a drying aid, or will it add more protection?

Many thanks.

Mike.

That's the right product, as in the one we are talking about. The whole Sonax Xtreme range is a level above their regular lines. But we were talking about the Sonax Xtreme BSD.

Also here, but out of stock http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-sprays/sonax-xtreme-brilliant-shine-detailer-750ml/prod_1178.html

That particular box on Amazon comes with a cloth I think, that's why it looks odd. You can get it just as the bottle.

Something worth noting is although the cost is a touch high on other quick detailers, it is also a 750ml bottle, most are only 500ml.

Just seen the price though and that is way expensive via amazon.

Would definitely add more protection, I find it remarkably unfussy about what it's applied over yet protects like a spray sealant

Looks interesting stuff. Yet another hybrid product!

I used to work in a factors which over my 6 or so years must of had every product mentioned plus several times more. Very aggressive staff rates meant I tried most of them!

Two of the best QD's i found were Lucas Slick Mist and Poorboys QD+. The Lucas was an immense all rounder. I literally used it everywhere (Dash, Paint, rubber, glass) and it produces a respectable finish everywhere. It's also great value being priced middle of the road but coming as a 1 litre bottle where most others are half that. Smelled good too, well worth a look for the lazy detailer as it can be used on wet cars.

The Poorboys was another beast. Very expensive but its the closest a QD has come to a paste wax imho as its quite thick. It must be applied to a dry paint surface and nothing else as it can leave residue which leaves marks on rubber and glass. Its a fair bit of effort to buff off (at least the same as a normal paste wax) but the results speak for themselves. It seemed to have enough lasting effect that if the cost wasn't an issue it could be used as a viable wax replacement if used weekly/fortnightly.

Funnily enough today was the first time trying Aquawax as I got a Lifeshine kit with my new Octavia; I thought it did an OK job. At the end of the day its minimal extra effort to apply whilst drying as with my huge deep pile microfibre towels (yes full sized towels) buffed and dried at the same time. I will use it to top up the wax it had applied from the lifeshine but I wont buy it again over the alternatives above. Autglym is one of those products, its hardly the best around but its reliable and doesn't cost the earth. Their range is missing a decent value wax though. They have no paste wax and the only solid wax is the HD Wax which is good but not worth the price tag.

If you want the best/longest lasting protection id recommend FinishKare 1000p Sealant (around £20). Its by far and away the best wax/sealant i have used and i suspect you'd struggle to match it without spending over £50 to get something with a lot more carnuba. It will probably out perform both of your tested products fresh after a couple of month of application, Its also the glossiest looking wax i have seen.

Just my two cents from trying a LOT of samples packs, freebies and discounted products.

Lucas Oil Slick Mist is in the waxyshop.co.uk for a good price atm, £8.00 for a litre.

They seem to rate it also.

Here's the DW nominations for Quick Detailer 2013 though, check out the number of votes for Sonax Xtreme BSD

BSD is very good. Its close between that and poorboys. BSD is much less effort and cost for results almost as good. So it probably deserves to win but looking at finish and durability alone I think poorboys nudges it out.

Ive tried Poorboys QD+ ....whilst it does what is should, it really isn't any where near as good as Sonax Xtreme BSB for durability and beading characteristics,

PBQD feels a little slicker on the paintwork, but that's all

I want to try some bsb now, is it better than the CGv7? I was going to order some from cleanyourcar, but they sold out.

Strange that we had opposite experiences With it. It was a lot of work to get the results but it was worth it.

Anyone know where we can get Sonax BDS other than Amazon (expensive) or from abroad?

I can;t find anywhere online that has it in stock (in the UK) and we do not have any places around Herefordshire that would sell something like that.

Cleanyourcar will have it back in soon I expect, give Tim there a call and ask.

On the Poorboys, Im with Chris, Poorboys is a classic use QD that is slick and glossy but on protection Sonax BSD is a whole other league.

Or you could go onto their website and get them to email you when new stock comes in. That's what I did earlier today.

Will do one or both. Thanks.

If you do phone...perhaps you could post the result here?
