Vrs tyre size.

Featured Replies

At present I'm looking at various tyres to replace my current ones fitted but I am wondering if anyone has run the standard spiders with a different size profile tyre and if anyone has any input into how they drive with lower profile rubber?

Was possibly thinking of 205/40's as a alternate size but seeing what people's thoughts are on how it'll be or if anyone is running that size or so on?

225/45/R17 Kuhmo KU39's £80 a corner and are the dogs dangly's

Thanks for those guys, I shall have a look into them.

Vrade, those are what I was looking at in 205/40 for £68 a corner as had heard previous good reviews but just wasn't too sure about the drop in profile and how it'll affect the car and its overall feel?

Where did you get that size for £80 a corner?

Id get them in 225/45 the car will have more grip having a wider tyre, mine are pretty solid with my coilovers but i dont get much body or tyre roll anymore

And in my case lasted under 6 months. Kuhmo's are doggy poo lol.

Falken 452's are 100%better and still haven't wore out after 2 years

Also the cash you save buying 225 's you'll use up and spend more in extra fuel in my experience

You do serious mileage? or trackdays?

Mine have been on 2months or so and most of the coloured lines are still present.

Id rather have more grip (slightly wider tyres are safer in general)  than ever so slightly more fuel economy, I bought a 20vT for performance not fuel economy.

I have avon zz3's on my octavia, they have been great to be honest! Not bad at 67 a corner!

I do find Avons are a reasonable price but unfortunately I don't like the way they feel when being pushed. Where I used to work we sold them amongst other things and I tried a set out on one of my mates cars and I really didn't feel confident in them.

He loved the way they felt but wasn't for me.

Like the suggestion though :)

Nope was just normal use over a summer, the grip is slightly better on the Falkens in the wet, felt the ku39 didn't displace the water as well on corners

Yeah i guess its just personal prefrence! I like the way they feel but im thinking of trying either t1r's or the vedestrien (if ive spelt that right?) but unsure yet!

Last set on mine was Falken 452, 205/50 lasted well, gripped well.

Now on Falken 453 225/45 as good as 452 but feels more cumbersome on 225, will be going back to 205.

Sorry for the lack of response from me guys, I have been doing the Christmas decs with my son in and outside of the house so been busy lol.

I appreciate all the input, I think I've decided on going for what I was running on my mg which is 205/45 so be a slightly lower profile with little less tyre flex but not so thin it affects the speedo in a major way.

Now to decide if to go for my usual falkens but in ze914 rather than the now obsolete 912's or to go for the khumos.?

Personal choice from experience would be the Falkens, Kuhmo's do seem to wear out quickly.

why not just buy part worn tyres in the correct size. £30 ish a corner for decent tyres, correct speedo readings etc. If you get lower profile narrower tyres you wont save any fuel, what you gain in drag reduction you lose with increased rpm at any given speed

Ordered myself a full set of 205/50 falken ze914's earlier this afternoon. After thinking about the pros and cons of changing the profile and other makes I've not used before I just thought I'd stick with what I've used for the past few years now and at least ill know ill be confident in the rubber.

Getting them all fitted Monday am when they arrive and got a decent price on them too as was originally coming in at 348 fitted but managed to knock them down to a much nicer and even figure :)

Happy days.

Thanks for the advice and opinions.
