  • My mate had a celica, was a good car and went pretty well, think his first one was had 140bhp but he crashed it in a wall. He then got another one more powerful, probably the 190 but he crashed that i

Wasn't the corolla the only car evo magazine sent back early because no one wanted to drive it,something about crap gearbox ratios that wouldn't keep the engine in it's powerband,I've never driven one but liked the look but after that review ended op getting my vrs

Its hard to keep it in lift 1st to 2nd but its not impossible.

It will muller a stock octy vrs! Even on the twisties it will out handle a vrs barge

Once i put a helix clutch and fidanza flywheel in it i could keep lift 1st to 2nd without a problem

The engine is used in the lotus elise 190 so surely can't be that bad! I honestly would recommend driving one for youself, i've had lots of cars and its by far my favourite of all

Well there's a Corolla locally with 80k on it and lots of new bits (brakes, water pump, aux belt), 05 plate and a Celica on a 56 plate with 110k at a trader... if both are still for sale on Saturday I'll be test driving them. Both the same money.

Will report back :)

Haha /\ maybe driving isn't for him

They are nice cars, my mate has one. It's a fair but slower than my hybrid Fabia VRS.

None the less they still look really good and nice place to be inside. Not sure how they handle, not been in it since my mate slammed into a curb at 70mph with me in the car!

Forgot to say he's always moaning how much fuel it uses!

/\ so are a lot of cars

Takes a pretty swift motor to embarrass a hybrid vrs.

Got to remember your comparing a heavily modified car against a standard one

Compare standard vs standard and the fabia is miles away

Think if still prefer my Fabia. Could never get the thought of 'Supra' out the back of my head.

Oh, did I mention my mate is going to buy lambo doors? Oh dear.

I traded a mapped vrs for my tsport

Then i also had a hybrid fabia

Had a great deal of cars and i have no shame in saying the tsport was my complete favourite!

Just something about that engine when its screaming its nuts off, soo much fun.

I also had an ek9 with an import teg engine in it, still preferred the corolla.

It does sound pretty cool, he rags it about everywhere, always on the limiter! Needs a bit of TLC paint is faded and peeling headlights.

I think the corolla is a bit more manly though. Is probably choose an S2000 over the Celica.

The celica is ugly imo. Never liked them. Oh and if he hasnt he needs a k+n typhoon on it! Literally makes your ears bleed

My pals just got aforementioned corolla. I was surprised I hadn't heard of them before. They do sound pretty mental.

I like the celica we're talking about. Shame they aren't rear drive though.

My friend has one, a black one, lowered, smoked rear lights, twin exit exhaust.

From behind you can see the rear suspension and exhaust box. It would look mad with some massively wide rear rims. Maybe 10j?!

Well hopefully I'll be seeing both on Saturday.

The interior looks nicer in the Celica, and from what I understand its pretty practical despite appearances. Corolla doesn't have the edge on aesthetics for me.

Well the guy at the used car place in Rochdale with the Celica was hard to get hold of and was unhelpful/unwilling to provide information re exact history. Basically its got 3 stamps and is on 110k... I'll be giving that one a miss then.

Corolla 8)

I'm running a Corolla T Sport as a daily driver. It's fairly nippy but it handles like a people carrier.  It's a soft Civic Type R

Cheers

Well test drove a T Sport today, but only a short distance (why do the used car prats think you'd part with cash after a spin up the road not getting past 40? The last 2 cars I've bought have been unaccompanied test drives which were great), but it was enough for me to know that I wanted more comfort over performance/handling (I wasn't sure really what I wanted more of, the Cordoba has neither).

Though strangely enough it made me miss my Puma. I think the sheer cheapness of the Puma makes it more attractive than the Celica...

Mine sold earlier in the year - can u guess the year / generation?

I think if I still lived in Wales I'd have a Celica in a shot (though not the one I drove, the gear box felt funny). But spending 1 1/4 hours commuting in one a day? Probably get fed up of it pretty quick.

Oh well... hmm what next... maybe a Skoda?

Nope.

Gen4 - based on the 1st Celica GT4 to win races!

Yes - after the Gen5 there were no more popup lights :-(
