best buy for a trackday..rarb and susp bushes or coilovers?

Featured Replies

Best to just to keep the car standard and enjoy the day as people have said.  However if you feel the need to spend some money then the RARB is a great upgrade, it transformed my Octavia anyway, made it much easier to trail brake when out on a run with my mates.  The brakes will cook themselves very quickly on standard pads so if you don't change them take it easy.

Looking at that list, I reckon the only thing that won't lap you is the Bora (assuming it's standard) but that's not the point.  It's a chance to find how your car performs on a track.  You could spend ££££ before the day and you'll still not be competitive with over half of the list.  I loved my Octavia to bits, but it was a bit of a barge with a massive arse.

As for fitting a FARB, that'll just make the car understeer worse.  You need to fit either just the RARB or both in conjunction otherwise you'll just go straight on at the first corner.  If I remember rightly, the bigger RARBs - 28mm for example - are best fitted along with a FARB otherwise you have a car that is too tail happy.  If you fit a 22mm Whiteline for example then you can get away with just the rear as that's not too big.

Someone may be along to explain better than I have just done, but that's my understanding anyway.

Whatever you do, enjoy it and go at your own pace.

  • Depends if you want to change the front arb. The whiteline works well on the rear. If changing both golf R32 23mm front and neuspeed 28mm rear. Agree with James with the brakes standard pads will

Why? 2 very light cars known for being fantastic round the bends vs a fairly stock family car? I done my first track day this year, don't get hung up on keeping up with other people, just go and have

  • all good comments above!

I'm getting the castrol 4.1 superdot fluid but pads wise I have looked at the ferrodos but can't justify the price. Only want to be spending max of 90 on them and have seen some mintex extreme or something that look to be half decent

Would a standard tt farb be a decent starter point as they are only pennies on eBay?!

Yep. The whole car....it's applied like a respray with a paint gun etc but with the benefit of not being permanent and can be removed. YouTube have some good videos.

cheers for explaining, not heard of that type of colour change before. Will youtube it.

pics please when done, would be interested to see!!

re; plastidip paint for the whole car !

If this is the same stuff we "trialled" at work, be very careful with solvents etc.

My workmate tried it on a couple of race car (single seater) wishbones.......finish felt a little "tacky" to touch,  mabe not very aero efficient...... and when he accidently wiped it with a rag that had brake cleaner on it, it all bubbled and had to be peeled off !

Maybe completely different stuff, would be interested to hear about your results.

Enjoy your track day, but remember, the bug can bite and before you know it you will be building a dedicated track car and then racing!!

Hi, I've currently got my wheels plastidipped and tyre shine too can have the same affect I have been told.... It has to be left for 24hrs in heated room to cure but it's only a temp covering....it's not intended to last forever so il just have to be careful what I use on it!

I can't wait till I do the trackday! Just bought the rarb off Clive and I can definitely seeing this being the first off many in the next year!

looks like interesting stuff, i looked up some vids.

Looks expensie for diy wheel refurb (about £16-18 a can) and 3-4 cans needed per set of wheels.

However found a similar product that is about £30 for 4 cans.

I notice the gen stuff can be blasted off with a jet washer, so care when washing. Other than that tho it looks like a good product to me!

It just depends how many coats the people doing it put on I guess...mine had a fair few coats on the wheels and I've jetted them maybe 6 or 7 times now; checking then out after. All seems good so far!

When the full car gets done, it's 8 coats of 'dip and 12 on the bonnet, wings and front bumper. Should be pretty durable hopefully!

I'll have to start a pladtidip 'week by week durability' thread haha

look forward to seeing the results dude!

any chance of some wheel pics in the meantime?

you havent seen his purple wheels! their awesome

I can't even argue with that!!!......they do look purple on pics....il see if I can take some more before work althought car is dirty!

I'm waiting to see what they look like when the rest of the car is done then it might be a case of redoing them in black

You'll have to excuse the state of the wheels!....I work on a steelorks and the roads are disgusting! (It is muck, not scratches on the rims!!)

And just for you heroin, I took two new ones that show the colour a bit better!!

Oooooo you beeeetch!

B pillars and grille getting done in black while I'm there and also ordered some fly eyes grey numb 4.

I reckon we are getting slightly off topic now anyway!!! Whooopsy! Sorry mods.

It's just a matte finish as I didn't get glossifier on them...there isn't really a texture to them....they are smooth really, and some better pics will be on my build thread next week when I clean it all up.

thats the primer?

Noooo!!!

lol, i get ya..

looks good then!
