Columbus Aux Video Connection

Featured Replies

Hopefully someone might be able to answer this. I have looked on this forum and in the ICE section but couldn't find the answer.

On my L&K Columbus I have an option when I go into the TV screen for an Aux option for Video. This shouldn't be confused with the Aux audio connector. I am not sure if the Video Aux is a input or output and also where the interface is to be able to conect to it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

It is an input, but of a particular format.  It uses an RGB, not a regular composite input.

The connector is at the back of the Columbus unit.

The input is used for the reversing camera and the tv tuner unit.

There are two variants of the reversing camera:

Lowline:  The camera plugs straight into the video input on the back of the columbus and shows video and some static guidance lines

Highline:  (AFAIK not compatable with Superb II), there is a module in the boot that connects to the camera and CAN bus.  The module overlays the camera picture with some moving guidance lines that adjust as you move the steering wheel to indicate where the car will go.  The module also has a video input for the TV tuner module and, using CAN bus signals, switches between the two inputs as required.

There are 3rd party modules that can plug into the video input and perform signal conversion (e.g. composite to RGB) and also enable the input button on the columbus so you could connect a video input of your choice in there.  I've never used one so that is the limit of my knowledge.

That connector on the columbus also contains a video output used for rear-seat-entertainment (RSE) such as monitor screens on the back of the headrests.  These screens are not deactivated when moving unlike the screen built into the columbus.
