LED interior bulb kit, not going well!

Featured Replies

Got a kit off eBay supposedly for a FL Octavia......

Fitted front and rear interior main LED lights fitted OK and work good.

Interior reading light LED's don't even fit, protrude past light cover! Put normal bulb back in.

Fitted boot LED's and now have no interior lights at all!

Presume I have blown the fuse, had a quick look but couple of fuses I checked are OK.

eeek what have I done!

Did you put the metal covers back on the boot lights?

When I did my Superb the covers were obviously shorting out as they blew the fuse each time, so I removed the covers.

Hi, didn't see any metal covers!

Boot lights clip into a metal housing in the boot material.

The bulb and fitting are open from the back, no metal cover.

i managed to pop a few led bulbs when fitting the boot ones. You didnt touch the metal framework at all did you?

When you say you had no lights, you mean you've checked since as after a while with the boot open all the lights will go out anyway

no lights means u have popped the fuse, check your manual, its a number in the teens IIRC in the fuseboard on the drivers side of the dash.
make sure you remove the fuse if you do have to fiddle with the lights as its very easy to blow the fuse!

Hi it's not the time out, reshut the boot, also reset ignition, even started car up!

All the interior lights no longer work at all.

May have touched the bodybork, definitely touched the light fitting metal parts while testing and fitting.

Checked the fuse I think it should be and that's OK.

which fuse was it?

iirc its a mini blade, about 5 or 10a

I have just checked fuse 15 marked as 'vehicle voltage control unit -interior lights'

Fuse continuity checked OK with a multimeter.

Id have thought there would be a relay involved somewhere too for the lights?? sometimes though electrical systems are linked so it could be something else entirely.. if you have a multimeter id go through all of the fuses one by one, cant hurt and only 10 mins max to test them.

Make sure u swapped the right fuse I was scratching my head when I blew the fuse on mine and then realised I was swapping the wrong one

Cheers for all the suggestions and Tips, I was testing the wrong fuse!

Found and replaced the fuse I had blown, lesson learned.

Now just need to go back to eBay seller regarding reading light LED's that don't fit.

Any pictures of the LED boot lights once fitted?

I got some leds off eBay. They were too long so just snipped the ends off the offending bulbs and get presto they worked.

Re the boot lights I put some electrical tape on the sides as the metal sync on te back shorted the car out and blew the fuse.

Superskoda is your friend.

I tried several LEDs for boot lights, all with no success apart from one.

That turned out to be less bright than the OE.

I gave up and bought the ones from Superskoda and am extremely happy.

Deffo plug and play and very bright.

Well worth the cost in terms of no hassle and performance.

When it came to upgrading the interior lights I went for the twin kit that they do.

10 mins and fitted and working. Job's a goodun. :)

I got all mine off ebay for next to nothing and they all work fine and have done for over 6 months no issues.. the onlu problem I had was the numberplate ones and the central interior lights being too short, but I spoke to the guy and he sent me a few sizes bigger... job done, replaced side lights, boot lights, interior lights all for less than 15 royal foils...

superskoda are too expensive if you ask me.. and ive also heard stories of them not fitting correctly..

For the boot just search for 501 SM LEDs and get bright white.., these are also the same for the map lights and front side lights..

this is the company i used

I vaguely remember being told the numberplate ones and the interior ones were 39mm but fairly sure they were too small so got 42mm, will confirm this later if i get time.

Will do once I find some that work!

The kit I bought just blew the fuse every time I fitted them. Twice anyway.

Seller is taking the lot back. So might take a look at the Fizz link above.

for what its worth I used Fizzmo for mine too, no problems with any of them

Number plate are 36mm :)

I fitted some a couple of weeks ago.

Ill grab some pictures off all of mine tonight for you, ill double check the size of the ones inside the car, and get some pics of the boot ones (I do remember the boot ones being 501 though and a bit of a pain in the arse to fit)

as for the number plate ill double check as Im fairly sure mine were not 36mm.. in which case its possible they used different sizes on certain years..

WookieM, what year is your car?

Number plate led's are 39mm in my Pre-Fl.

Hi, mine is a 2012 hatch. So far looks like 501's for the boot and reading lights. And a main festoon light that I will measure tonight.

Hi, mine is a 2012 hatch. So far looks like 501's for the boot and reading lights. And a main festoon light that I will measure tonight.

Mine are:

2 x 42mm for main festoon, front and rear.

2 x 39mm for rear number plate.

1 x 31mm glove box.

2 x 501's for boot, reading lights and 2 x front & 4 x back side lights (2 each side for rear).

Don't see why they would be any different to be honest.
