Some advice Buying A 2nd Hand Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI

Featured Replies

Hi to all on the Skoda forum and I am? a new member to the forum. I would be very grateful for the following advice on my next new car purchase. We have decided to go for a SKODA Superb or Octavia 2.0 or 1.9 Diesel car 140 to 170 horse power .Budget will be between 7500 to 8500. a 08 or 09 plate will fine for us. As we are semi retired we live 6 months in UK and 6 months in Portugal as we have a Holiday Home there as well as in the UK. We looking to P/EX our Vauxhall Signum 2003 2.2 Diesel. So want a strong engine car that can travel 1447 miles to Portugal (through France every 6 months). So we think the Audi is the best car for this as they have good robust engines. Is there anything that I need to be aware of when look to purchase and any checks that need to be carried out before purchase. We are based in Telford so would be interesting to know any good dealers in the area. However I am prepared to look for one nationally around the Uk for good spec and price. Mileage wise 40,000 to 50,000 would be ideal with full S/H. Also we have a large Serre De Estrelia Mountain Dog and Labrador(small) to go in the back boot so space will have to be good. Any advise would be welcome to my next purchase . Regards Jon :hi:

Hi  BJB540   yes we have been living out there for the best part of 7 years now, and it is fantastic out there in the summer months. I  work flat out in the UK for 6 months and play around on our property in Portugal 6 months in the summer ,I also do alot of road cycling out there as well.

Ok I am also looking at the Octavia 2.0 Diesel and the 1.8 T petrol.I have herd on this forum that the 1.8T is supposed to be a very good car and engine to have. The one thing that worries me is this DPF System on the diesel cars. There will be times that we will have to do short trips AND THIS dpf can clog up the system with soot if it not burned off. ,so its knowing which engine I should go for is the problem for me. Also the other problem is that petrol is expensive in Portugal compared to Diesel.

Alot to weigh up in my decision making.I do know that the fuel economy is pretty good on the 1.8T and are they best engine out all of them.Anyone who could point me in the right direction would be great.

Regards Jon   :D

There's family owned main dealers in both Bridgenorth and Kidderminster, both of which have good reputations

Welcome on Board, just thought i'd give you my two pence of advice on car choice. I have owned 2 superb's in both Power Set up's and various octavia's.

As you have to Travel a fair old distance i do 680 Ish miles from Germany to Nottingham the abilities of the superb as a mile muncher come to the fore it's lovely and quite really comfy and Good on Fuel i'd still have a quarter of a tank left that's with blasting down the Autobahns aswell. The boot is plenty Big enough as we have a daft Great Dane who is massive he weighs in at 88 kilo's and he had no Problems Getting comfy in the boot had to turn the Music up to drown the snorring Out.

The Octavia is another belting Motor i assume you will be After the Estate avoid the sportier Models and you will be Fine, i am füll of Aches After driving my New mk3 VRS Never got them in The superb.(Must be Getting old).

If i Could be cheeky enough i would advise you to get the 170 bhp Superb in SE trim enough Kit onboard fast yet frugal. I dare Say i miss my old Superb especially When im travelling back to the UK. Best of luck in your search and a merry christmas

Hi Matty70 thanks for that ,I don't think for one minute that Gracie would not fit in the back boot its massive, she be a very happy dog in  1st class travel . . I have herd that the the 1.8 Turbo Petrol Engine is supposed to be the best out of the bunch 160bhp!!!!.Still may concider a 2.0 TDI though.I am looking more towards the Octy Elgance Trim but will try and get a Superb if it is within my Price Target, struggling to find one with decent mileage. I may wait until March for when the new reg comes out as sure prices will drop on used dealer prices.

If there is any dealers looking on this post please do drop me a p/m if any octys or superbs cars come into stock. We are based in Telford Wellington and I have a Vauxhall Signum 2.2 DTI  2003 plate 80600 miles to p/x (me second owner).
