Metallic paint cost.

Featured Replies

As the title says , I'm curious as to what's people's ideas are to why metallic paint costs so much to speck when ordering a new car over a solid colour. If I have put this in the wrong sections mods, feel free to move.

I believe part of it os down to the paint needing more layers or differnt layers (that might be totally wrong I'm not an expert).

Also there is the fact that car companies are greedy ****ers and they'll charge over the odds for every option.

Some companies (Audi?) now charge extra for certain solid colours. Like white because it's popular right now probably.

It costs that much because that's what people are willing to pay. It doesn't cost anywhere near that much to use metallic instead of flat paint, and you can see an example of that with certain non metallic colours now costing extra.

The manufacturers charge it because they can, and as they all do it it's become the norm.

Oh and white on a car isn't cool by the way!!

What I don't get is how Skoda are/were charging the same for metallic paint across the range!

When I got my Citigo the cost for metallic paint was the same as for a Superb.

I do believe one of them has quite a bit more paint on it!

As you must have seen by now, the reason for that is the paint on the Citigo is 60% of it's structural integrity.  :giggle:

Like black was a few years ago, and like silver was recently until white became flavour of the month.

Some of the metallic and pearlescent whites look very nice, especially with sunset glass.

Baaa.

Even the police are going back to white from silver or blue.

I am the opposite nothing better than having a rare coloured car for the model. Aslong as its not a silly colour. :)

Agreed, I really didn't want Race Blue on my vRS because they are all Race Blue.

The reason I bought a Race Blue one was because it was the best (in my opinion) colour.

I still felt like a bit of a sheep though.

I wish I'd had the balls for the Sprint Yellow.

I have only ever seen one other in the Netherlands, everyone turns and looks at it. When I move back to the UK, I'm going to an area you see hardly a single VRS let alone race blue (being at opposite end of country from nearest dealer). If the car is registered in England, I believe the V5C states under colour 'Common Blue'. :p

59 seconds in the life of a Race Blue VRS in the Netherlands :D £348.94 for metallic paint well spent

Skoda are losing the plot. They have discontinued SPRINT YELLOW totally and they won't put a 1.4TSi DSG in the Yeti!

They may well lose my business.

Holy thread revival Batman!!!!

Sprint Yellow must not have been getting enough buyers ticking as an option,

and the parent company Volkswagen will have ordered that Skoda did not offer a Petrol engine with any decent power and DSG just a 1.2 TSI 110ps.

This will be so that those wanting some power, petrol and DSG will buy a VW, Seat or Audi SUV, where as they will likely go buy a

Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Suzuki, Fiat, Hyundai, Kia or the likes that offer petrols with autoboxes that can pull the skin off a rice pudding.

Sprint yellow is a bit out there

While the old lemon / ovni yellow was a bit more pallateable. But did fade

Skoda UK have disallowed sprint yellow.

Still available in the CZ configurator.
