Footman James anyone?

Featured Replies

If so, you'll probably have been notified like me, that they've been taken over by the 'Towergate Group'.

Biggest Independent Insurance Intermediary in the UK apparently.

Strange that I'd never heard of them until now.

With FJ as they were the only ones that could provide me with a sensible quote, via their 'Young Drivers' insurance scheme providing its used on  Moggy Minor only, which is what we did last year.

Still worked out cheaper to buy a car and insurance than to pay for Muss R to drive her mothers Vauxhall Agila.

So now, with this take over I'm seriously worried that this new outfit are going to pull the plug on this scheme for youngsters and wonder if anyone else is having the same concerns.

FJ are currently the only provider to offer such a scheme as far as I'm aware....unless one of the other suspects know differently of course?

Shall be ringing FJ in the morning anyway, as I need to plan now what I'm going to have to do come next March.

Talked about this on the Moggy Minor forum, and one of the mods is very kindly going to PM someone from FJ (who sponsor said forum) to clarify their stance on this matter, both for me and all the other young drivers who are heavily relying on them for their future cooperation via this fantastic scheme to help youngsters to actually get behind the wheel.

Victor,

I know nothing about young drivers, but on another forum for classic cars I use, this company is currently regarded best for classics. I was with Aon and Footman James took them over, premiums doubled and standards halved.

I believe this is the James of Footman James.

They have a phone staff who know what they are talking about.

Strangely enough, I met him in person at the classic car show at the Trafford Center a couple of months ago.

He did an instant quote for me which worked out cheaper than all the others usual premiums, but £600 more than FJ.

He's in reserve if things go belly up in March, thanks.

At the end of the policy she'll have a years NCB and be a year older thus opening up many more companies who should be competitive no?

How old/young is she?

Actually, she won't, as you don't earn NCB on classic car policies, but with premiums being as low as £70 for the more <cough>  'mature' drivers of well cared for Moggies, this isn't really an issue for us.

She'll be a year older though, with a clean driving record, so that'll help reduce the premium hopefully.

20 by the renewal date in March '14.

Paid a much more pleasing £440 this year, (still way too high imo) which as I say, added to the cost of actually purchasing the car, it STILL worked out cheaper than having her as the named main driver  on her mothers 1.0L  3 cylinder Vauxhall Agila.

The Towergate acquisition is being watched with interest.

I worked for Aon's classic motor division for 11 years, leaving / escaping 8 years ago and some time before Aon paid tens of millions for FJ's.

Towergate have a LOT of debt and some eyebrows were raised by the takeover.

Funnily enough I was chatting a pal who works for a large city broker today and they walked away a few days into due diligence on Footman James - didn't say why but it'll be interesting to see how long it lasts.

Peter James has been at this for decades - I have some views which I'd rather keep private but read policy wordings very carefully indeed!

Thanks for 'head up'.

The whole industry is a minefield for the mere long suffering and fleeced public.

It didn't, and to make it worse, I got my month wrong . :wall:

Due mid Feb, NOT March!  :wall:

Bloody price has rocketed up to £651, that's over £200 up on last year .

Why? Well a 'phone call may or may not reveal the answer to that one.

I'll probably be spouted 'market trends or some other such s****.

So, here we go again. The annual money grabbing merry go 'round springing back into action.

GOD I HATE THESE PARASITES!!!! :@

This take over has done exactly as I feared it would do too it seems.

New broom, new ^^^^^^^ prices.
