diesel octavia

Featured Replies

hi guys. new to this forum so please be patient lol. im looking to buy a diesel octavia between the years 2004-2006. what model should i go for. any other tips or advice would be much appreciated. should i go for first generation or second generation?

I've got a mk1, 2004 or 2005 is when they crossed into mk2 I think so you may have to ask in there to get some other opinions.

Anywho, the 1.9 tdi block is pretty legendary and as long as it's not been abused is quite bulletproof. Regular oil and filter changes will keep these beasts going for a crazy long time. No DPF to worry about either on the mk1...

I love my 110 bhp tdi, theres a few guys on here with remapped ones and the general consensus is they go very well.

There are some quirks and what not, but then what cars doesn't?

Also the mk1 is based on the golf mk4 (seat leon, audi a3 also) chassis and shares almost everything so shares a lot of similarities in terms of maintenance and items to replace periodically.

I'm down south of you with a 2004 mk 1 90bhp 1.9 Tdi. have it 2 years and its been on the button the whole time.

153000mls up, so its only run in...

If i were you though, and if i had the cash,  I'd stay mk1, 2005/06, 110 bhp or 130 if you can find one.

L&K trim is quite nice, but it depends on how much you like Tan Leather.

Black Magic is, as has been pointed out several times on here.... , the fastest colour too so get that one ;)

As Said, as long its been minded and you continue to look after her, they are brilliant cars, load space is epic,

and mpg is fantastic on the diesel lumps.

Plus, there's hardly a mechanic in the land wont have seen one at some stage, or one of its cousins - Golf, Bora, Leon, A3 etc...

so parts are easy to get and fit.

Not all L+K have Tan interior!

My MK1 Octavia 130PD estate has black leather with black trim.....would never consider the tan option myself.....reminds me too much of my dads Jags!!

Fair enough, can only base it on what ive seen, and any L&K i have seen has been tan interior....

tbh i presumed it was that which set it apart.... along with the other extras...

The tan interior is gopping imo. The black interior is much nicer.

To the OP, I have the elegance which was the highest non-special edition spec. I paid a premium for it I'm not sure I would pay again. If you got a good deal on one then I'd go for it but I reckon it cost me 10-15% more than a 'lower' spec. As long as it has AC!

The L&K was the top spec and not a special edition. The elegance does have quite a bit more than the lower spec cars, especially the more powerful diesel engines which I think made a big difference.

I thought the lower spec cars did come with the 110 ASV engine? If they don't then yes I would go for the elegance for the slightly more refined engine.

I was sure the L&K was special edition, not as special as a WRC ofc.

Maybe I am completely wrong and living in an alternative octavia timeline. :drunk:

Classic was SDI

Ambiente was 90bhp TDI

Elegance & L&K were110 injection pump or 130 bhp PD

There was also the uber rare Ambiente SE which had the 130 pd engine, but that was a run out special edition.

Obviously this is only the diesel engines.

I was thinking of the SLX I think, it had the 110 engine fitted in some cases from a quick check.

The slx was basically the pre fl elegance spec.
