have i got turbo problems..!

Featured Replies

well done about 4000 miles in my 2004 octavia asv engine ( non pd ) 120,000 now and even though i tried to be careful not to buy one with variable vanes problems it looks like ive got one..

When driving along in low revs and changing up i get alot of turbo flutter, also when i start the car in the morning if i give it a hard rev the turbo will flutter badly and then the engine will die. then when i re start it it will be lumpy for a few seconds. i also notice that a couple of times now ive lost a lot of power and it wont rev above 3000 when driving but will when sitting idle.but when i pull over and turn the engine off and back on again its ok. i thought it might be the fuel filter but ive replaced this twice now so i know its not a blocked fuel filter. also my mpg averages at about 40-41mpg. now i will say im running 100% biodiesel but i have been for the last 5 years in all my cars ( even hdi engines with no problems) so i know my fuel is top notch...and not the problem   :)

So am i better off firstly trying the old mr muscle route or should i just swallow the cost and bang on a new turbo... also whats the going price for a turbocharger, i guess im looking at buying a recon one i suppose...

suggestions please....

The Mr Muscle is the cheapest route to start with ! - I would also get the codes read before slapping new (expensive) parts on.

and dont rev the car hard when its cold!!!

It does sound like mr muscle is in order. Do it when the turbo is warm, and make sure you work the lever well, keep topping it up and leave it the full time. I had to do my ASV twice before it felt any better when I bought it.

This....thats the best way to kill a turbo.

Perhaps you need to do an italian tune up, perhaps even with regular diesel.

check to see the actuator on the turbo moves freely, if not then do a Mr Muscle treatment, then check for vacuum leaks.

If the actuator moves ok, then I would check the CTS and MAF.  When was the air filter last changed?
