Hello, Saturday I posted a post about my car making a noise. My mechanic and had a look at it, Gearbox has blown a few bearings. So in need of a new gearbox.

 

But can't afford a new one cus its £860 for a supplier to replace mine with a reconditioned gearbox...

 

 

Anyone know of anywhere I can get a secondhand gearbox? as looked on eBay and none on there...

 

 

Lord give me the strength not to just beat ten bells of **** out the car :(

Where can I find my gearbox code? I've looked In my boot underneath spare wheel and everywhere in the boot, can't find anything ?!

Not sure where you could find a cheap recon gearbox I'm afraid but I'm sure it's possible .

Anyone know where I can find my gearbox code? Mines an 06 VRS. Just looked in the spare wheel well and nothing, no plate with information on or anything !?

Get it repaired. Mine went, cost barely anymore than getting a replacement but I know its good for years now. Put a unknown used one in and it could do the same in 3 months time

Yes, all six-speed PD130's use basically the same gearbox, as felicia16v says the actual ratios may vary.

Look for a gearbox with the code HDS as that is the 2004 onward shorter ratio's box for the vrs

Joking apart, if there is a gearbox specialist anywhere near you it wouldn't necessarily cost that much to get all the big bearings and seals replaced assuming all your intenals are intact, a complete recon with new synchro rings etc. probably isn't necessary, you should replace the clutch friction plate as well even if it's fine because you can get a friction plate relined for about £40.
