putting my rarb on today

Featured Replies

Looking forward to the results. Hope its as good as when I put one on my fabia.

I was thinking about puting one on after Christmas. Never had one before so not sure how much it changes the car. Let us know on the results!!

What RARB did you go for??

Can one be fitted to the non-vRS? I assume it uses the same rear suspension set-up?

Phil

what is RARB please???

I went for the whiteline adjustable. Got it from awesome on the black Friday deal. The one on my fabia made a massive difference on motor way stability when taking sweeping bends at speed, also felt more confident when changing lanes suddenly

Pound for pound has to be one of the best upgrades going for our slightly wallowy Skuds.

I have the really stiff 20mm H&R non-adjustable on my Furby and it was a game changer, it dialled out all of the understeer and now when pushed the rear of my car is quite frisky, so much so I might eventually upgrade the FARB to try and tweak back to neutrality.

Sure the RARB will go down well on yours Mike.

Just a thought but it could be worth checking the alignment afterwards, we found on mine that the stiffer H&R combined with lowering springs put a little toe in on the rear.

Looks easy to fit.

Tempted!

I have always intended fitting one to all my cars but never got round to it so no idea what the difference feels like but always hear good things.

Phil

Do we have fitting instructions preferably wih pictures ????

Tempted as well :-)

Sorry to hijack, but I have a brand new Whiteline RARB for sale if anyone wants it. See the For Sale section for Octavia Mk2 (Golf Mk5) Upgrades for sale thread.

Why aren't you putting it on mate?

I changed my mind about owning my car so part-exing it today. Got other Octavia upgrades for sale too if interested.

Well it's on, and not disappointed! It does have to same affect as on my old fabia, no roll at all smooth flat cornering. I can honestly say go down this route to improve handling over a suspension drop any day unless your also after looks.

Better handling and no compromise to ride quality, Win and more win

I have front and back whitelines, very good, really notice the reduced understeer.

Do it Phil , great mod mate

for the rear it goes on without disturbing the alignment, so no need for a geo check. fronts are much more involved though.

i love my autotech rarb - only downside was the naff bushes it came with - they squeaked after a few k miles. replaced those with some superpro bushes which were much better but they still need re-greasing periodically.

I used this aluminium grease that repels water so it never gets washed away

Its very easy to fit.  The only part of the existing suspension you need to touch is the suspension drop links - plus the bar clamps of course.   So no alteration of the geometry at all.

My Whiteline adjustable has been on about three years, bushes still fine and still squeak free.  Still in mid position.

As noted in Mike's eulogy, one of the best mods to an Octavia.  Certainly best bang for the buck.  Well, after the A/C "off" mod!

What effect (if any) does this have to the ride quality and compliance on the UK's less-than-great roads?

Doesn't make any difference what so ever to ride quality

I used this aluminium grease that repels water so it never gets washed away

yep, mine had that (superpro grease) which worked great but after 25k miles the movement of the arb had worked the grease out of the bush so it squeaked. i doesn't get washed away as such, just squeezed out as the arb moves. IIRC the H&R bush has some sort of teflon insert so it won't squeak.
