Cat whistle

Featured Replies

A few days ago i noticed a high pitch whistle coming from my engine.. when i got it up on a ramp i noticed it was coming from the cat... but there is no rattle, loud noise or change of exhaust sound. Does anyone know what this could be? ... and if i should be worried about this?

The thing nearest the cat, i.e. the turbo, possibly?

The cat must have caught a bird.

Thats not your turbo, its the egr valve iirc. At idle your turbo shouldn't be doing anything.

so...could this be a knackered cat?

More likely to be a leak somewhere IMO or possibly noise transmitted from the turbo.

If it's the cat bird thing they're cheep, cheep. :)

Sounds more like an induction leak if it started suddenly, check all your pipework and joints very carefully.

Looks like boost pipe leak strikes again

so, sounds like you have a slightly corroded catalytic converter, get a mate to cover the tail pipe with a thick rag for a second and you may be able to see where it's leaking.
