Due to a change of circumstances, we might need to look to change vehicles. At this point nothing is certain, and I need to work out figures to confirm the change happening. 

 

Our car spec is:

 

2011 '11' Skoda Fabia VRS Estate, First registered June 13th 2011.

 

The car has all the usual VRS refinements, plus the following optional extras. 

- Metallic Black Magic Pearl Paint

- 17" Black Gigaro Wheels

- Heated Front Seats

- 3 Spoke Multi Function Leather Steering Wheel

- Telephone Preparation GSM + Bluetooth 

- Cruise Control

- Climatronic Air Conditioning

- Electric Rear Windows

- Front Centre Arm Rest

- Red trim option on seats

- Red edged Skoda Carpet Mats 

- Rubber boot liner

 

Usual useful stuff to know

- 28,000 miles (Actually just under at  about 27600, but will increase with use) 

- 1 Previous owner to myself. I purchased the vehicle with just over 1000 miles in September 2011

- Tax until February 2014

- Skoda Warranty until June 2014 (I believe this also provides breakdown assistance?)

- 4x Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2 tyres fitted less than 1000 miles ago (November 2013)

I want to encourage a quick sale. How much do others think this is worth? The absolute cheapest VRS estate in the country is £9990, has more miles, and no where near the specification. I'm thinking its probably worth £10500-10750 based on what is out there, but I'd need to entertain the lower end of that for a quick sale....

 

 

Thoughts?

 

The cheapest on Autotrader is under £10,000 asking price for a pretty ordinary 2010 (60 reg) Red Estate, but 19,000 miles.

& another @ 20,000 miles, 60 Reg

 

There is similar to yours in a Stratstone Dealers with Asking Prices of £10,500. Black  2011 (61 Plate) 21,000 miles

so they are possible to get at £10,000 or less.

 

Have you tried a Skoda Dealer to see what they will offer to buy.

Have you had any offers if trading in anyplace, 

or tried WBAC to see the lowest offers?

I've not tried trading it in or WBAC as the replacement car is a private sale.

 

WBAC seemingly always offers comedy joke prices, thousands of pounds less than trade ! Last time I spoke to my dealer about doing a swap, it was part exchange against another of their cars, but the deal never took off as the car I wanted moved faster than I was ready to. 

 

I've had a quick peek at the two sub 10k ones and you are right, they are poorly spec'd and not comparable. The similar black one doesn't have climatronic, and no mention of bluetooth that I can see. So I guess thats the £500-£1k premium for dealer service/profit margins.

 

I'd imagine then £10k would be a fair price for a quick sale considering the spec. £9995 to make it look nice. I've obviously just popped the best part of £450 of the best tyres on the market on there also, so another 'nice to have' :) Frustratingly cheap price for a great car though !

Dealers are quick to put down WBAC, but quick enough to check them out before making you an offer to buy,

& thats where many of their Sales cars come from, if they do not get the Customer to bite on their low offers.

Worth a try of a price from  WBAC and see how comedy, they have been offering not bad money,

generally around £1000-£1500 or £2,000 less than some dealers are posting as an asking price.

Not so many Estates have been going through the Auctions, as far as i have spotted.

 

There is a good enough market for Estates, and it is only one buyer you require.

Might also be worth confirming if it is a non-oil user if you are trying to attract potential buyers on here? ;-)

If the car is out of the Original Warranty in Feb 2014 or there abouts, maybe worth getting thedetails from a Skoda Dealer on an Extended Warranty

just to have at hand if a buyer is interested in your car, but thinks they might go for one at a Dealers, where they will get a

12 month Warranty.

 

£547 can get a 2 Year Extended Skoda Warranty.

Thanks for the further replies.

 

Car did go through a thirsty phase, fully rectified under warranty, and I've got a lovely letter off Skoda UK that confirms this as now resolved beyond doubt. Oil thirst quenched :) 

 

I'll be really sad to see it go, but real life dictates we need something different now.

I doubt I'll still have it in February, car will be listed for sale in the next week or so if everything goes the way I think it will. 

What are you going for next mate?

Quite a different car... a Land Rover Discovery 3

 

My wife's health has taken a bit of a turn for the worse, and we need something big enough to fit her mobility aids in the back, and at a height that she can easily get in and out of. That to me is far more important than having a fancy flash quick motor :) 

We've just had our first child, and also got a dog, so we've gone for something huge.

It was this, or an S-Max.... I think I've made the right choice !! (We'll be getting a V8 Petrol, so I can say goodbye to MPG above 20 !!)

Be careful on the buying of a Disco 3. or 4 (& Range Rover Sports)  

The Engine, Box etc requires the Body lifting off for even not major work.  Alignment at the rear another major expense.

 

I run a 4.6 V8 Land Rover as a tow barge and did lots of miles, but on LPG only, and it was affordable.

I had a 4.2 V8 on Petrol and it really was not.

(The Orange 110 in the Gallery was on LPG only.)

V8?! Good lad! That's gonna be quite some low mpg tho but great fun I'd imagine :-)

We do very low mileage, so the complicated diesel was well off the table. The V8 Petrol works out broadly the same running cost (man maths)

Well, I've sorted myself a new vehicle, so the Fabia will be sold :(

I've gone for £9995 for a quick sale. When you see what is currently out there, you'll see that this is fantastically priced.

If It doesn't use oil, put it in your ads to reassure people ;)

I know someone that want a Black Estate and yours looks great.

It might interest them.

If it was an oil user it would have to had a New engine though, not just a breather mod.

So,

??the Question has to be,

what did Skoda UK have done under Warranty that stopped it using oil, where it was using oil before ?

If they gave you Documentation/Letter to say that it is all OK. & not an Oil user now,  #Post 8.

then hopefully they can do that for everyone.

Hi Folks,

It does use a little bit of oil every now and again after the breather mod, but there aren't many (any?) modern turbocharged petrol's that don't to my knowledge. Since the breather mod I'm below the 1l per 1000 miles maximum that Skoda say is within tolerance.

To put it into perspective, I've now done nearly 1000 miles of mixed usage since the service at 27000 miles, and I checked the dipstick the other morning using the correct procedure and all was good in the world.

I'll drop you a PM :) I agree regarding the letter by the way.

 

If he was desperate to somehow get a new engine - I'm not sure how he could prove it with this car now as the issue appears to be resolved - it obviously still does have the balance of the manufactures warranty for him to try and do that, but I'm unsure why he would want to. 

WBAC valuation of a 13 plate vrs hatch... £9500. Ridiculous, that's £6500 less than list price in 6 months!!

Depreciation on MkII Fabia vRS' in general has been a bit of a surprise to me.

 

WBAC are the pits generally and as we all expect a lot of the time under offer massively, however having talked to a couple of main dealers they also seem to offer low on part exchange etc also.

 

Mine's staying with me a while longer so not an issue, but it's not great news unless you are buying a second hand bargain vRS

Yeah the depreciation is shocking.

Actually the depreciation is far less than many other cars before the car has reached 3 years old.

VAG cars and particularly VW are pretty bad and worse than 48% lost.

 

You can get Rubbish offers from Dealers on cars that are pretty new to you, thats how it has always been.

 

vRS sell when new for lots less than list price, and anyone that bought a £15,000 car and 3 years later could get £10,000 for it were not suffering the depreciation that someone that bought a Polo GTI at £22,000 and could only get £12,000 for it.

 

3 1/2 year old out of warranty vRS can still get you £9,000 for them, so if that was a £16,000 car the £7,000 drop is not the worst of depreciation.

If you want a bargain, do not buy new, buy one that someone else suffered the first 6 month drop on.

if you do buy new and it is a keeper, it might only have cost you £2,000 a year over 5 years.

 

£20,000 plus cars often cost you £3,000-£4,000 depreciation if the car is only being kept for 3 years.

Keep it for 7 years and it might be back to have cost you £2,000 a year in depreciation.

But keeping a vrs for 7 years is like a punishment issues by a Nazi general!

You might keep a car that comes with a 7 year Warranty for 7 years.

 

Skoda make you pay to have a 5 year warranty as standard, just like VW do and thats why the are not great on residuals.

Once they have the confidence in their vehicles to give 5 or 7 year Warranties as Standard then VAG Residuals might improve.

 

So you take a new MK2 vRS while available still, 'Much Cheapness',

pay for the 5 year Warranty, keep it 5 years, 

£15,500 new, Pay the Service plan for the 3 years, Pay the Warranty for 5 years.

 

If the car is worth £6,000 in 5 Years or you run it into the ground, depends how you treat your cars,

you are a Low Depreciation Car Owner.

Thats just how car buying has always been.

 

Or buy a new £10,000 car and keep it for 7 years, and if it is still worth £3,000 in 7 years, or still like new,

thats even better. Buy a £10,000 keep it for 10 years, you might still get £300 to scrap it.

That is what i do, and have done for years.

 

Cheap cars as Keepers are almost Free Motoring at around £1,200 a year. If all you need is a car.

Or buy a £2,000 car every year or 2, you might be running a near scrapper and that can maybe cost you £1,000 a year.

Or you can buy well and it runs fine for years.

I think the valuation on a 3.5 year car is a tad optimistic George, not impossible but optimistic and I'm guessing that would need to be a private sale of a very low mileage car.

 

True enough there are plenty of worse cars out there and I accept the point on dealers under offering, my guess is they are looking for a clear 1/1.5k profit on a car taken in as part ex.  the sales manager at DM Keith had a chat with me when I was in and basically admitted that Dealers have minimal interest in bringing in used vRS models be they Octy's or Fabia MkII's outside of warranty as generally they are driven harder and need more work to bring them back up to scratch, oddly he suggested the suspension at this point, which may tell you what kind of toffee-fabricated dampers and springs these cars get.  So most vRS will be moved on rather than put on the dealers forecourts (obviously exceptions apply.)  Good amounts of the conversation was dealer waffle but in fairness they only had ex-demonstrator age vRS cars used on the forecourt.

Did i give a valuation on a 3 1/2 year old car.

I usually speak about their value before they are 3 year old, ie in Warranty before the Value Drops.

& you need to find a Small Dealer, Private Buyer or send to auction.

 

Does anyone know  where is the cheapest June/July 2010 vRS we can buy today?

Yes sorry my bad, £9,000 on a 3 1/2 year old.

I can get you that today on a good car with low mileage.

I can certainly sell one for that.

Having am Extended Skoda Warranty on it helps lots to getting you that sort of money when out of Original Warranty..

 

Do not expect Shiny Main Dealers to be wanting your Out of Warranty over 3 year old Skoda unless 

they are selling you some other car they can not shift.

Different thing with other Car Dealers possibly.

Depends if you have a buyer waiting.
