As i stated in my introduction i am thinking of getting a Octavia Diesel VRS, i have been on the look out recently trying to spot a VRS out and about to try and get a look at one as i have only seen pictures on line.  But for some reason i have not come across a single VRS so obviously i am thinking to myself why is this?.  Is it because it is not a good seller or are there other reasons i should know about.  BTW i live on the Wirral just outside Chester.

One worry i have is that there does seem to be a few horror stories about Diesels with a DPF not just Skodas but most modern Diesels, this will be my longer journey car i have a Kia Picanto that i use for all short journey stuff.

Any advice or info relating to the Diesel VRS would be most welcome.  If it helps i would be looking at getting one between 2/3 years old.

You'll get more replies if you get a moderator to move this to the octy 2 section mate.

Here's 1 not far from you from skoda uks website. You'll have no problems with a dpf. It's short stop start journeys that cause problems not the sort you will be doing.

Cheers mate, how do i do that.

Cheers mate, how do i do that.

If you use the 'contact us' link at the bottom of the page giving them the title of your post and the section its in and where you want it moving to 1 of the mods will hopefully pick it up. There's anothe vRS in chester too.

Good luck

BTW as an alternative as the OP you could lock this thread and start a new one in the octy 2 section with a more suitable title.

Cheers Guy's,  littleade thanks for the links but i was not so much talking about cars for sale in my area but the fact i have not seen any out on the road.  If i end up getting one i would like a red one about 11 plate.  One thing that is important to me is that i like my music when out driving so i need a car that can play MP3's at the moment these are played via a usb stick in the Focus i have seen that the Octavia has an SD card slot, so can MP3's be played via this.

Just seen some pic's of a silver one nice, might change my mind on the colour.

Hi and welcome,

I've had an 08 vRS derv now for 8 months and think it's great. For me my journey is only 24 mile round trip but I can get up to speed on most of it so even though the miles are not much I've had no bother with my DPF and its done 80K now.

The head units that have SD card slots are I believe, units that can play it direct from the card or save to it's hard drive, my Columbus head unit does anyway and if it has a colour touch screen it may well have sat nav too.

Newer versions like the age you mentioned will have a better ipod connection facility and IIRC Bluetooth is popular so you probably wouldn't struggle finding one with it already fitted.

Hope this helps

Steve

No worries. I thought you wanted to go and see some in the flesh to get a better idea of what they're like. Anyhooo, not sure about the 'normal' vRS' s as they have (IIRC) Bolero units fitted which again I think tend to have 6 cd interchangers rather than a slot, but they may play mp3 cds. All the Blacklines had amundsen+ satnavs fitted which do have the SD card slot and I've got a 16gb card in mine, but colours are limited to race blue, black magic or white, though there are a few estates about that were produced right at the end in different colours. Some of the normal vRS'S will come with the columbus sat nav as a ff extra which is a more expensive unit than the amundsen and that has a SD slot too. Good luck

Yes littleade you are right i do want to go and have a look at one and have a drive to make sure it is what i want, i was just making an observation that there did not seem to be many on the road where i live.  All the vRS cars i have looked at on line all seemed to have a SD slot in the unit this is something i will need to check out as i do want a car that i will play my MP3's.

The standard Bolero head unit has an SD card slot which will play your mp3s. It doesn't have a hard drive.

Also, don't worry about the DPF, the newer CR engines in the facelift Octavia were designed to have DPFs and don't seem to have any problems with them, it's the older PD engines which you hear the horror stories about.

There's not that many where I live either so I know what you mean. Mind you I bought my Blackline without even test driving a vRS but I did have another Octy so knew roughly what to expect though it was much better than I thought it would be when I got the keys a couple of weeks later. Hopefully you'll be equally impressed, the quality surprises many who've never been in a skoda before. IIRC there were about 5000 CRs sold in the uk last year. They're based on the mk5 golf gtd so reliability isn't an issue, the lovely vw owners have already found all the faults for us!

Mk6 GTD ;)

Mk6 GTD ;)

sorry my mis... Even better then!

I wouldn't worry about not seeing many as it must just be where you live. Certainly down south they are very common. I can see 2 from my lounge window! (And no I don't have one)

I just use a16gb sd card for my music. Works a charm.

Surprised you haven't seen any especially with Mitchell's in Ellesmere Port, they always seem to be a lot more common once you have one  :smirk: .. visually no different (even badges) to the petrol, tend to see more estates than hatchbacks especially around Chester way.

I can't comment on Diesel issues as mine is petrol.

Can't comment on the diesel woes, mine is a petrol ,but I now have my entire CD collection on an SD card which resides in the slot in the Bolero stereo. Playback quality is good enough for my liking!

Thanks for all the info, yes you would think that having a Skoda dealer on my doorstep you would think that i would see one now and again.  Anyway i think i will get myself down there and have a look around at what they have got.  BTW just as an aside what are your thought's on a 1.8 TSI L&K version?.

My first octy was a 61 reg 1.4tsi 122ps. I wanted 'a bit more' and actually wanted a 1.8 but by the end of last year skoda had discontinued it in the mkII and they had just started releasing the blacklines so I had one of those instead as financially it was a no brainer. In the L&K it'll be peachy though as with all tsi's give it some stick and you'll notice it at the pumps. Think most get on ave high 30's mpg wise but it is such a nice smooth engine with plenty of go when you need it. Have a test drive.....

Have a look at this thread though.

I think i will prob stay with getting a vRS as i want a more sporty look, it's just a shame you can not get steering wheel controls unless you get a DSG.  Dont quite understand that myself as most modern cars have them now.
