1.8T Vrs engine checks

I've only really done stereos in my previous cars as they weren't anything special but I want to learn as much as I can about this engine, as well as making sure nothing's broken before the warranty runs out.

I know the normal checks like fluids, tyres, brakes, etc the things I don't know about are the turbo, boost pipes, coil packs and anything else that can go wrong.

I know I'm stepping into a minefield of paranoia here but the car feels fine and I don't think there are any major problems with it, the sai is screaming in the morning but I'm going to remove it anyway. Is there anything else I should look for?

Check if the coil packs have been changed under the recall. if not id get them done anyway, even if they seem okay.

oh!! door latch micro switches.. and paint issues around the spoiler / boot area. thats had a lot of chat on here the couple of years ive been around.

Hmmm im suffering with the door locks on my mk1 vrs at the mo what a pain in the arse! And the paint on my spoiler has gone so know exactly where ur coming from mac, how to sort the doors out though? Postie it is always worth getting a silicon boost hose kit for peace of mind and clean out ur throttle body too u will be surprised at the amount of crap that comes out! Oh and the mas is always worth a clean too. All of these stoped my motor running funny.

The paint needs some attention but I'm going to try to bring it back and start looking at respray costs.

Any links on the throttle body cleaning? Don't really want to change any parts before the warranty runs out.

Cheers for the micro switch link they're ok for now but it would of taken me ages to figure out how to get the door card off

Do a search for it, theres definitely a how to guide for the throttle body and also turbo cleaning.

 

Think Oet did one or both of them? but cant be 100%

Throtle body ckeaning really is just a case of buying a can of cleaner, undoing thme jubilee clip, removing thr rubber hose as spray about a quarter of the can in, naking sure u get into all angles and the back of the paddle. Its so simple and cheep, i only paid £8 for mine off anazon but can prob get it cheeper mate

Does the same method not apply for the 1.8T's ?

 

Would've thought it'd be fairly well the same...

It's only the variable vanes on the Diesels that are prone to gunking up and going sticky. Different fumes and very different turbos.

Door microswitches, water drains into footwell's, oil pressure issues, coilpacks, breather pipes, Sludge, exhaust mount snaps, throttle body gunking up, Secondary air pump failure.

 

Thats the common ones.

Cheers Vrade, there's no water leaks and the doors work fine, at the moment. Going to check all the pipes and exhaust brackets over the Xmas break before cleaning the throttle body in the new year.

Hopefully I shouldn't find anything too major but want to make sure nothing's going to go bang once I start tinkering
