spark plugs and air filter

Good point im just gonna drive it to the dealers on 8.30mon good job im off. They reckon it will be fixed with another set of plugs. They say it must be a dodgy plug. However the car ticks over sweet and pulls enough when gently accelarting. However when you put your foot down it bogs down as if stuggling to burn the fuel. Im not convinced the another set of plugs will fix it. Im gonna ask to see the state of the 4 they just put in when they swap them for another. How can can the technicain screw up putting bloody spark plugs in and an airfilter. God help if it ends up needing a new engine. Im concerned now with what damaged as occured. Hopefully nothing if the car is having a wobble with the fuel. I just dunno very peed off though.......sorry for my rant i still cant believe it. I know it will enventually be fixed by the warranty this year i hope. But thats not the point.

I quick update the car seems to be running spot now another set of plugs and a software update. Well pleased a credit to the dealership for fixing it.

Once again that pharse is mentioned "software update" as far as I am aware there was 1 or 2 for the 1st engine CAVE and maybe 1 for the newer.

Me ive had both services completed at dealerships and not once spoken to about them carrying out an update.

Took sparks out about 8 thou ago and apart from a little build up on 1 of them they looked pretty good.

Only ever used super unleaded on a couple of occasions due to where I live and only getting the normal stuff

There's a TPI out that says something along the lines of if you get a COMPLAINT of misfiring/juddering/EM light on and the fault scan shows misfires on any cylinders to check the condition of the spark plugs and check the software version. If it's not a certain number it needs updating.

Think it's only be CAVE engines I've done it on tbf.

It's not something that gets checked/done during a service as the techie won't get paid for doing it.

  • 3 weeks later...

My car is at 29k and one of the spark plugs failed over the weekend. Just had to pay £160 for plugs and diagnostics and £85 for the software update. Rather peeved off at such a high price but the vehicle was already recovered to the Skoda garage so limited on choice.

Why are you paying for the ECU Update, ?

even if your car is out of Warranty it should have been done when in Warranty . Or are they just saying thats part of the Bill?

Ask the Servicing Dealer why not done previously. @ 2 Years or 20,000 mile Inspection Service.

Then depending on the answer,  maybe get onto Skoda UK Customer Services & see about some Gesture Payment Towards your costs.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to speak to Skoda UK later. Apparently the software update isn't included in the warranty (something I can't understand). The car is under extended warranty still with a servicing agreement and full service history and I questioned why it had only come to light now. I'll let you know the outcome...

'If an Upgrade was required'

that should be done by a Skoda Workshop while carrying out a Service and having put the car on the Diagnostic.

It used to not be at a 12 month/1 year service, but at a 2 year/24 month Service.

But the Skoda Service Schedule now shows 'Diagnostic Check', Vehicle and Software Enhancements' (Up date) at each Service.

THEY SAY FROM SKODAS DATABASE.

That is while in Warranty, or not, just you having a Service done and paid from your own pocket.

This should be no different on a Service Plan.

Ask them if the Software Enhancement (Update)  they charged for today has just come about since the car was

serviced 9,000 miles ago or when ever.

So is it some recent Changes now required on Twinchargers, or just one that was not done when it should have been,

possibly adding to the premature demise of the Spark plug (s) which according to Skoda Service schedules are to be changed at 40,000 miles.

Having read the Skoda Servicing page I can confirm that alot of the stuff on there isn't mentioned/noted or changed on the service sheets that technicians in a Skoda dealership would see.

The printable service schedule off ELSAPro doesn't say anything about checking for software updates at all, and AFAIK, the shortest scheduled replacement of a pollen filter is at 20k miles, not 10k.

What the Skoda website says regarding spark plugs and fuel filters also does not tally up to what techs are told to go off.

Come on Skoda, sort it out!

The Pollen filter replacement is on the Schedule at the 'Inspection Service', which is 2 years or 20,000 miles

What is the Website saying on the scheduled Spark Plug change on a 1.4 TSI CAVE or CTHE with the plugs the car comes with?

VW AG NGK 'PZFR6R'

It is 40,000 miles.

What does it say about 'Fuel Filters' changes for a CAVE/CTHE ?

Skoda Dealership Workshops in the UK know about the issues with the engines.

(or have they really never heard of the possibly High Oil Isage and other known faults)

Some can not even put in the correct quantity of oil after replacing an engine.

The Manager receives the Notifications'.

They all have a tongue in their head and can quite easily bring their self and staff up to speed.

Come on Skoda,

but come on Skoda Technicians and Master Techs.

Sorry for the poor pictures as usual.

This is a 'Skoda Maintenance list for an Inspection Service',  20,000 miles.

as gets Printed out for the Vehicle about to have the Inspection Service. Has the Model Details etc. Reg no. VIN etc

First Item on the list reads.

" The fault memories of all systems must be read using VAS diagnosis units, faults must be rectified according to repair guidlines."

2nd Item,

"Service interval display: Reset"
