New FL rear badge for pre FL Yetis

Featured Replies

Had my car serviced today in record time, and had a look at a new Yeti outside.

The rear badge is plastic, which is good news.

The old badge is made from pressed aluminium sheet, as are/were many other car manufacturers. The process is dying the aluminium and anodising, basically an electrically induced layer of oxide which provides protection. Unfortunately the finished product seems to have it's edge trimmed subsequently to give a "raw" aluminium face. This allows "corrosion" over time, which creeps in under the anodised "skin" and gives rise to the white worm we experience. Also, over time the dyes will fade under UV light - ending up as a bit sad.

Plastic signs are "chromed" with vacuum deposited aluminium in a completely different process, (think Christmas balls!!)which will stay as new for years.

I'm already kitted out with front badge in black and silver, wheel badges as well. Unfortunately the Skoda system can't take orders yet for replacement badges, at least at my dealer!

ps, yes I know it looks like Corsa badges, but I like them.
