No dash light for revcounter

Featured Replies

hi guys need some help here please..my dads 07 octavia the light on the rev counter needle stopped working tonight and its very annoying. All other dash lights are working fine. Ive done several searches to try figure out how to remove dash and fit new bulb but im getting no results..please help im not even sure are they old style bulbs or if they are leds or some other form of lighting

tia

I think they are LEDs that are soldered to the board so you may need to get the dash out and get them replaced or just re-soldered (dry solder joint perhaps?)

Phil

Give the dash above the instrument panel a good thump with the lights on, sometimes this gets a bad connection going again.

Thanks for replying lads MicMac i tried that several times actually no joy ha ha..you could be right Phil but i cant find instructions on the site on how to remove the instrument cluster or if in actual fact it is a led gone..also ive read some horror stories from lads removing the dash and finding out that its connected to the immobiliser and cauding themselves all sorts of aggro..

another thing im on this site since 2011 and im still classed as a newbie!!! whats the story :)

@cluvie123

Good luck whatever you do, I'm sure a few of us would like to hear how you get on.

Dash lighting has always been a job I've hated in the past, however that was with regular filament bulbs and no immobiliser gubbins in the unit.

Cars are just too clever these days.

Once you make more posts it will change :)

thanks again for all the replies guys..i got the instrument cluster out no bother thanks to phils link but i was too uncertain to pull out the plug. If it was my own skoda fair enough but its my fathers one and id never hear the end of it if something went disasterously wrong. His attitude is its driving fine without it. Not me everything has to be 100%. My turbo keeps running into safe home mode when she gets warmed up its definitely got to do with either wear on the actuator or carbon build up on the vanes so im undecided whether to get a recon turbo 500euro or get the turbo taken down and cleaned.. :think:

@cluvie123

Search for the Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner post.

It would seem like a cost effective way to resurrect a carbon clogged variable vane turbo.

thanks MicMac thats a brilliant post ive asked if anybody can perform the procedure on my 03 octy..im in Ireland so im keeping my fingers crossed..

okay guys took down the turbo today and oh my god what a job. Driveshaft etc had to come out before i could get at it..eventually got it out and stripped and out of all the veins 3 were moving freely. The others wouldnt shift without the assistance of a hefty set of pliers. Completely cleaned them without removing the three torx screws for fear they would break. Kept at it till everything was moving freely and replaced the actuator ring. I was suprised at how clean the inlet manifold was and the actuator was perfect. Ive only done about 40 miles since so im not clapping myself on the back yet but so far so good :blush:  :blush:  :blush:

@cluvie123

Good job and fingers crossed.

Do you feel any performance change?

Hey Mic Mac took her out last night and recreated all situations where she would normally have gone into limp mode ie hard acceleration in top gear from lower revs/speeds and no problem..i took her up to 70 and left her drop down to 50 and kept putting her under load and all good..time will tell of course. I was shocked at how clogged and stiff the veins in the central cartridge actually were its amazing how the vacum actuator worked at all..im hoping shes good for at least another 30k..

@cluvie123

With regard to the extent you had to go to just to access the turbo, I think I'd have tried the Mr Muscle oven cleaner first.

As I said fingers crossed, feel good about saving yourself a significant garage bill to replace the turbo if they deemed it faulty.

I know someone who had similar turbo problems and paid a grand to have his turbo replaced.

Poor guy, if only I'd known about the oven cleaner trick then.

Have a nice Christmas and New Year despite bad weather and all the disruption it causes.
