Parking sensors - rear bumper removal needed?

Featured Replies

I'd like to fit parking sensors to the wife's rapid, but as it's a new car and I've never worked on it before I was wondering whether anyone knew if I'd have to remove the rear bumper or if I can do the job with everything in situ?

I need to pass at least two wires (beeper and reverse light) up from the behind-the-bumper-area to the boot area. Will I need to drill a hole or is there a blank or capacious grommet I can avail myself of?

Many thanks

Louis

I you buy a kit it's straight forward - the hole will need a grommit to affix the beeper but should come with it.

Think you can do everything in situ

I bought a dolphin kit and it seems pretty good. Comes with drill bit for making the holes. Just need to pluck up the courage to put holes in a new car :)

It is possible to do it is situ, but if you remove the bumper you can fit them in the OE position as the holes are normally marked inside the bumper, they also only normally take around 15 mins to remove, but it is much easier with two people as they are quite flexible once removed.

Thanks :) waiting for some slightly less unpleasant weather - sounds like bumper off is best.

I have Dolphin micro sensors on my car which I have had for 2 1/2 years and they have been spot on. Someone damaged my back bumper just before Christmas and spoilt one of the sensors which needed replacing. A quick phone call to Graham at Dolphin and a replacement was in my hands within a couple of days. Very good service, from Dolphin.

I had Dolphin sensors fitted professionally and they didn't take the bumper off; front or rear.
