Should i be paying for oil consumption test?

Featured Replies

Im having the (now famous) oil issues. After having the breather pipe fitted i am still having issues with the consumption so have contacted the dealer and have been told i must pay for the test as the warranty (i bought the car 2nd hand and got a year warranty) doesnt cover diagnostics of problems, only the fixing of problems. I basically want to know if i should be paying for it? Dont want to be paying 'around £200' whatever that means.

Thanks in advance for your help.

How much is it burning, do you think? Unless it's over 1/2L per 1000km, you may have a battle getting it done for free, depending on the dealer. A lot of people seem to magically use 400ml/1000km  or thereabouts when doing these tests and then face an argument about costs.

No don't pay for it. It's part of an ongoing warranty issue with your car that the dealer has failed to fix (the breather mod almost never works). Contact Skoda UK.

Did you pay for the first consumption test? if the answer is no then the next test and all subsequent tests should be free as you have an ongoing issue.

If the answer is yes then you will be expected to pay again as you paid before.

I asked to speak with SUK when asked to pay for the second consumption test, they called SUK, who then authorised the dealer to bill SUK for the second test.

My Fabia still uses oil but after all the return visits to the dealer and tweaks, mods and general messing about I got bored and just top it up, after the breather mod it is better than it was but still thirsty.

Why would it be £200. the invoices others got was £108-£138

Call Skoda UK. and get the Consumption test OK'd,

They know well the test needs carried out due to the amout of the 2,400 Skoda Twinchargers & the other VW, Seat, Audi that use too much oil, in the Faulty Engines they know they built.

There are around another 3,500 Twinchargers in the UK, and the percentage of faulty ones was at around 20%.

This is growing in the ones from 2009-2012, CAVE engines.

Around the World they have Faulty Twinchargers, not just in the UK.

*Maybe arrange with Skoda UK to leave your car untill it is returned fit for purpose,

they can arrange the Courtesy car untill they provide you with one that does not require topping up with Oil more than is acceptable for the use the car gets.*

If you know your car uses more than 0.5 litres of Oil in 621 miles why worry about paying for the test,

if they make you pay, you will get the Money Refunded & you are due compensation.

You are also going to be due a new engine under the Manufacturers Warranty.

They know the Faults Exist.

Do not accept a test where the car is to be driven for 300 km (186 miles) then the Oil Used Multiplied.

Skoda/VW never say how much oil a car might use in 300 KM,  (one constant non stop drive for 186 miles does not represent normal use of a car for maybe a month of commuting or short stop start journeys.)

they are the ones that like to quote 1000 km. & may use as much as 0.5 litres of oil in 1000 km

So hold them to what oil is used in 621 miles of driving to the type of use your car gets.

Thanks for the replies. Really appreciated.

I put it in for oil test and they said straight away that they wouldnt do it and would go straight into fitting breather pipe as they were experiencing this fixing the issue "on most cars". I have a 2010 cave Fabia. Will ring SUK now and update you guys.

Please ask them just how many cars they have done with a Breather Valve Mod, ?

if this fixes 'Most cars'.

They really do just make it up, and actually now seem to be lying to Paying Customers & the Public.

Scratch that...ill ring them on monday. Completely lost track of days this week! Any advice for when i ring them? What im saying etc? Not used to dealing with stuff like this.

Are you calling Skoda UK?

Just get a 'Handler' & start a Complaint and requirement for action under your Warranty,

and start them of in having your car assessed properly for High Oil Usage and potential Faulty Engine through Manufacturing or Materials.

You may need to have the Breather Mod done, then they can go from there.

Breather has already been done. Noticed slight difference but nothing to take note of really. Have liased with SUK previously so hopefully they will still have my issue log open.

Yes sorry, Breather already done.

Can you use another Dealership to do the work from now on. any place else near?

From post #6,

so the Dealership never did a Oil Consumption test, just did the Breather Mod,

then say that it fixed the issue on 'Most cars ',

I would put no trust in a Workshop or Service desk if that is how they think Serious Warranty Issues should be dealt with.

? What mileage had the car done when you purchased it from the Dealer.?

I would check with Skoda UK Customer Services if they had paid for an Oil Consumption test with an Previous owner

before the car was sold to you,

then was given a Breather Mod without an 'Oil Consumption test being done.'

??Was the car a Demonstrator at the start of life, and was it a Demonstrator from the Dealership you bought it at?

There are Ex Demonstrators around that the First Private Buyer rejects/returns because of High Oil Usage,

these just end back in the Trade or at Skoda Dealers being sold again without any Remedial Actions having taken place.

My car started life as a demo for 4weeks before being bought and then traded back in at a dealer in Derby was told that it was traded in as owner wanted an octy. (Gordon lamb) i have been dealing with Simpsons skoda in Preston. I dont have another dealer near me really. It would mean a good drive anyway. I bought it at 37000miles. I was the first person to ring SUK regarding this car. I booked it in for test, got a phone call 5mins after dropping it off telling me they were fitting a breather pipe there and then and i could pick it up in the afternoon.

?What date of first Registration?

Just out of interest look at that date of First Registered then Sold after being a Demonstrator after only 4 weeks.

?So what mileage on it when change of Owner?

Dealerships selling cars without keeping then for 3 months can not get the Discount that they gets on Demo Cars.

But if someone wants one quick, they might well just sell it.

Or they just registered it up as a 10 plate Pre August & as a Demo to get sales figures.

The first cars were only coming into the Dealerships June/July

Anyway, it has not got to 37,000 miles from new, 3-3 1/2 years,

Skoda Approved Warranty now running and the Warranty Work to check for faults carried out when the Breather Mod was Approved,

or the Dealership footed the bill, probably due to them already knowing when selling it that it was reported as being an Oil User.

Down to Skoda UK to have the vehicle running within the Maximum Oil Usage they claim is acceptable.

That would really require a new Engine if it is an Oil User.

all the best

george

Not on this oil problem.

Thanks to 'sk4gw' for that bit of info on dealers keeping Demo cars for 3 months.

I was wondering why the dealer 'had' to keep their showroom model for 3 months before I could buy it.

3 months, or for 3,000 miles.
