Roof box & rack

Featured Replies

Who has one? What did you pay?

Will be doing a family euro trip in March & the mrs doesnt travel light!!

It's for a 2010 model. Dont suppose anyone wants to rent me theres covered with a nice deposit refund upon return??

Have a search for roof box rental places, there are plenty out there.

I have Thule roof bars and fitting kit, with a really old 2nd hand roof box.

What region do you live in, if someone was willing to 'loan' you one. Plus is yours a hatch or estate with bars?

Mines a Hatch. Based in Lincolnshire :)

I won't tell you what I paid for my thule aero bars from eBay! They were off a mk5 golf so just needed a new foot pack

Also got a narrow full length box from classified for 50quid

Just do an eBay search and order by nearest to you.

EBay is your friend. I'd recommend Thule for the bars.. Reasonably priced and very good kit. I also run 3x Thule 591 bike racks too - cracking stuff. For the roof box, I got a thin ski box type thing off eBay for about £80. It's an exodus (halfords) one which is about £250 in store.

I bought a set of Thule bars and fitting kit of a Briskoda member for £60.

We used ours for a bike rack but also considering a slim box to fit at the same time for next years camping trip.

I've got the same set up as DaveyBoyWonder, which isn't a surprise as he gave the same advice to me in this thread:- link (thanks by the way  - I forgot to post a reply that it all worked well... )

The Thule bars work a treat and I think the aero aluminium ones are the ones to go for as they are light enough to man handle on your own (I put the bike carriers on once and have left them all locked in place when I remove the bars).
I eventually found some by searching on eBay for LAS610001B link

Although obvious in hindsight roof bars do whistle a bit and I was slightly alarmed by the 20% drop in MPG, but they did work superbly well.

Exactly what I do. The bike racks hold the bars in the right position etc then I stand up on the back door sill and lift them over the car by myself. Being tall helps.

Mine don't whistle at all actually and we forgot the bikes were up there.

40mpg was a little alarming though! Only just squeezed 50mpg out of it by doing 60mph on the motorway down to London.
