Spraying

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if this in the right section but here goes, I was just wondering if anyone has gone and bought a air compressor and spray gun them selfs and painted anything on their cars I.e bumpers bonnets ect? I have a very local paint supplier that will mix the colours I need, just wanted to know if anyone has had the experience of this and what techniques there are, if it will be a decent job as I would love to put my car in a body shop but with the work I would want i may aswell have the whole car resprayed, thanks in advance

I can more or less garrenty you wont be able to fully spray your car with no experience first

will you be outside ? Be prepared for leaves . insect . Temperatures this time of year. Over spray on other objects

will you be able to prep it perfectly? Stripping panels. Makingareas ect ?

Will you be happy with any blemishes ? Because chancea are you will get some imperfection anywhere

have you got the time ? It will take along time !

Most jobs I would recommend trying yourself. But respraying. .. leave to the professionals. Yes they are not cheap but. You have something to fall back on. And chances are.. will be spoton

But I am only guiding. :)

fletch is right, spraypainting is a skill like plastering, you learn by doing.

Not only do you need the skill (which you will only learn by doing it) but you also need the right equipment ... heated dust free garage etc.

Yeah I agree , unless u have a suitable place to paint if leave it to a pro, I did my wheels myself in my shed and it was hard enough getting the right temp in there , and stopping bits of dust,

I've had abit of experience I've painted wheels and a few bumpers but they were just with rattle cans, but I totally agree it is a time consuming job and preperation is key, but you won't learn unless you try, I have my brothers bumpers I can practice on first if anything does muck up anyways, I just thought it may be abit cheaper than going to a spray shop
