Octavia Blackline - Passenger-side heater blowing hot

Featured Replies

Morning chaps.

Coming to work this morning I became aware the cabin was getting very warm, then I realised that while the driver-side vents are blowing at the correct temp asked, the passenger-side are blowing red-hot whatever temp I input.

Thermostat? I take it due to the dual-climate there must be separate systems for either side of the car?

Common fault? Anyone had this problem? Is it a dashboard-to-bits job? I'm hoping not! I don't want dash-squeeks/creaks afterwards!

Not looking forward to having to book my car into Derek Slacks and potentially leaving it there for a few days..........

I had the same fault with my car about a year ago. IIRC the temperature flap controller (at least it was called something like that) was replaced and unfortunately for you the dash has to come out for that. It was booked in for 2 days but it ended up being in the garage for 9 days and it still wasn't fixed when I got it back. The main reason that it took so much longer than they predicted was because when they started to reassemble the dash random parts that were working when they took them out decided that they didn't want to work when they were put back in for example the steering control module and the heater control panel under the radio. When you get it back go over your car with a fine tooth comb because the garage managed to damage mine when they were removing/installing the dash and ended up leaving a 10 inch scratch on my passanger side window. There were also quite a few small bits of broken plastic that looked as if they were used to clip something on somewhere scattered around in the foot wells and the only explanation that I got for them was that they came off of the old parts that came out (Of course they were. They were never going to be off of the new bits just fitted were they :wonder: ) As for rattles and squeaks after the dash was re-fitted there have been no rattles but by god did it squeak when it was first re-fitted. It was so bad I considered taking it back and askind them to take it out again and seat the whole thing again because it couldn't have gotten much worse but I never bothered in the end. It was really bad in the first few months but it seems to have settled down now 10 months after having the work done. It isn't as quiet as it was to begin with and it still squeaks occasionally but I think that its as good as its ever going to get.

If I remember anything else then I'll post it up or if you have any questions then fire away.

Thanks for that detailed reply buddy.

Coming home tonight the temps from the vents were all normal.......so not sure what is going on. After reading your horror story I think I will just leave it alone and see if the problem comes back, rather than take it to the dealer now.

No problem. I'm happy to help where I can :) I wish that I'd just left mine alone and just put up with the heaters when they went wonky. 95% of the time they would work fine but it was really annoying since the car was only 2 months old when it started to go wrong. If I'm honest the whole car's been a horror story but I've decided that I'm not changing it until the mk3 focus rs comes out or 3 years old if ford don't release the mk3 rs.

Was it on dual setting?

Somebody might have turned up the heat on the passengers side without you spotting it.

If the dual button was lit you may have pressed it and turned it off which in turn adjusts the passengers side to the driver setting.

I've had this with my 62 plate a few times now. If I cycle through all the vent settings that normally sorts it straight away. It wasn't anything to do with the dual settings on mine unfortunately but until I can't fix it doing the above I don't want to let anyone loose on it and end up with more being wrong!

Had a similar episode and did the same as above. Its been fine since

Hi buddy. What did you do? Just press all the different buttons (ie blowing on face, then feet, then both etc?)

By the way - I had another fault-free journey this morning, so it's defo something I can live with as is (unless it got worse and stuck on hot)

Yeah just clicked each vent setting and wait a few seconds before pressing the next one. That sorted it two out of the three times it happened to me. The third time it happened I think I turned it off and back on again and that did it (the fans not the engine).

Always semed really random when it happened and always with a long time gap between so I've no faith in the dealer finding anything based on previous experience!
